For the GS-11:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing protocol support functions for ceremonies, receptions and social functions; preparing invitations and recording responses; preparing rosters and seating charts; planning and coordinating travel arrangements and itineraries for distinguished visitors and guests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
For the GS-12:

- This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-11 grade level. At the full performance, GS-12, the incumbent will:
- Conduct thorough planning and research to ascertain all relevant information and all arrangements and details are tailored to fit the needs of each distinguished visitor.
- Prepare and coordinate itineraries, lodging, and transportation for official functions.
- Provides technical advice to the Headquarters command on funds, regulations, and protocols to determine requirements needed for official functions.
- Brief the command leadership and insures their personal requests are coordinated within the particular framework of the visit when feasible and proper.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Temporary duty may be required 15% of the time.
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- The position requires the employee to travel away from the normal duty station to include CONUS or OCONUS and may include remote or isolated areas.
- The employee must be willing and able to travel on military or commercial aircraft.
- Must be able to deploy to escort distinguished visitors and to operate the Joint Visitors Bureau.
- Required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
