MITRE's Network Engineering Team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Network Engineer with 5+ year's experience in advanced routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP), creating Network and MPLS overlay designs for both LAN/WAN, and configuration of Cisco ISE infrastructure and policies as relates to 802.1x. In this role, you will contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of cutting-edge network solutions that support mission-critical systems. Roles & Responsibilities:
Network Design and Implementation:
- Implement the operational design, deployment, and management of Cisco ISE infrastructure and the policies needed for 802.1x.
- Create and contribute to network routing designs based on OSPF, ISIS, and BGP protocols to ensure high availability, efficiency and performance.
- Manage and administer enterprise, network switches and routers, from Cisco and Juniper, including implementing and maintaining Cisco IOS and Junos OS updates to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Develop and update critical network documentation and design guides including but not limited to ConOPS, SOP/MOP's, and network diagrams.
- Act as escalation in routing and network troubleshooting for junior team members.
Operational Excellence:
- Contribute to operational excellence by establishing clear procedures and operational processes for the department from the projects in which you work or systems of which you maintain.
- Collaborate with teams to improve automation, and management toolkits. Work with our reliability teams to ensure proper monitoring of systems, alerting functions and metrics can be gathered for measurement of system and/or network reliability.
- Identify and resolve network issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align network designs with organizational goals and mission requirements.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Provide technical strengths to the engineering team in routing and ISE, and provide guidance to junior engineers and team members.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across MITRE to understand mission needs and translate them into network solutions and designs.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure MITRE remains at the forefront of innovation.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of network designs, configurations, and processes. (ConOPS,SOP/MOPs,network maps)
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry standards, and government regulations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Active Secret clearance
- Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S. Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
- 4+ years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on routing protocols, Cisco ISE and MPLS overlay networks,
- Experience in Juniper routers and switches, SRX's and MIST.
- Understanding of routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, and BGP, including troubleshooting and optimization.
- Experience with 802.1x network authentication, authorization and accounting systems such as Cisco ISE.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 network operation support, including on-site support after hours if necessary.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as CCNP (Cisco) or JNCIP (Juniper), demonstrating knowledge in both Cisco and Juniper network technologies.
- Experience managing and administering Juniper SRX's, routers and switches, including JunOS updates and configurations to ensure compliance, security, and optimal performance.
- Familiarity with Juniper-specific tools and technologies for network automation and monitoring.
- Experience with network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, Terraform).
- Experience managing and administering self-deployed MPLS Networks.
- Familiarity with cloud networking and hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
