What You'll Be Doing

As a Machinist/Mechanic Helper, you'll support the maintenance and repair of shipboard mechanical systems under the guidance of experienced mechanics. Your work ensures the safe and efficient operation of mechanical equipment that keeps the U.S. Navy's inactive ships ready and secure.
  • Assist Machinists/Mechanics with the installation, disassembly, cleaning, and repair of shipboard mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Issue and examine tools and equipment to ensure proper function and maintenance.
  • Operate hand tools and small portable machines to perform repairs efficiently and safely.
  • Identify and localize equipment malfunctions for corrective action.
  • Assist in overhauling, servicing, and adjusting mechanical components.
  • Support vessel mooring, receipt, and departure operations.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, environmental protection procedures, and operational standards.
  • Handle weights up to 100 pounds and work in physically demanding conditions, including confined spaces, high elevations, and variable weather.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with all team members.
  • Be available for overtime and travel up to 25% for company business.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support safe site operations and contract execution.
What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of relevant ship or industrial machinist/mechanic experience under the guidance of a qualified Mechanic.
  • Valid driver's license and qualification to operate government/company vehicles per the Corporate Fleet Vehicle Safety Manual.
  • Ability to qualify to wear a respirator and comply with all safety and environmental protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of an approved diesel/engine repair course.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical systems, tagout safety precautions, and energized equipment hazards.
