Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element is: The ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision including:1) Reading and interpreting specifications, sketches, blueprints, and technical directives to accurately understand shop orders or products required for testing and evaluation; 2) Applying mathematical equations and formulas relevant to non-destructive inspection (NDI) methods; 3)Operating NDI equipment with the proficiency needed to perform general maintenance and minor repairs, including replacing probe, cables and conducting periodic inspections; and 4) Calibrating and setting up nondestructive testing equipment prior to examining parts, components or assemblies to ensure optimal performance and accurate examination results.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
This position requires rotating shift work.
This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
- You will arrange for correction of deficiencies and re-inspection of repaired items.
- You will perform traditional, Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) of castings, forgings, machined parts, test plates, welds, metal cladding, pipes, bar stock, flat metal sheets, airframe and engine assemblies utilizing NDI test equipment.
- You will inspect parts for flaws or defects, discontinuities in patterns, interpret indications and document flaws or defects in material and prepare reports on defective parts.
- You will work with subordinate inspectors to set the pace and demonstrate proper inspection methods and may be required to work with trainees.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You must have a certificate of completion and will be required to pass level II certification exams and maintain level II certification in at least two (2) of the following methods: (ET),(MT), (PT), (UT), X-Ray, (TE).
- Hearing protection must be worn for noise levels of 85 DBA and double protection is required for levels over 105 OBA.
- This position requires corrected vision as eye strain may occur from prolonged work on small parts, near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye. You must be able to distinguish color.
