The Cloud Engineer is a senior technical role supporting a federal cyber and mission-critical program. This position focuses on migrating sensitive workloads into secure government cloud environments and designing resilient, scalable cloud architectures. The engineer will build, modernize, and optimize cloud-native solutions across Azure Government and multi-cloud ecosystems.
This role provides hands-on engineering, architecture development, automation, and technical leadership across cloud transformation efforts. Candidates must have strong cloud architecture experience, security awareness, and the ability to guide teams and stakeholders in adopting secure cloud best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Architect, design, and deploy secure and scalable cloud solutions within Azure Government (PaaS/IaaS).
Implement containerized workloads using Kubernetes, AKS, and Docker.
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, ARM templates, and CI/CD pipelines.
Lead cloud migration strategy, planning, and execution for mission systems.
Conduct performance analysis of cloud platforms and recommend enhancements.
Provide technical consulting and architectural guidance across cloud portfolio initiatives.
Ensure all cloud design aligns with DoD security, RMF, and compliance standards.
Support automation initiatives across cloud operations.
Create and maintain architecture, deployment, and operational documentation.
Participate in technical reviews and support integration with cybersecurity teams.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s + 12 years, Master’s + 10 years, or PhD + 7 years of relevant experience.
Degree strongly preferred in:
Information Technology
Data Science
Computer Science
Cybersecurity
Information Systems
Software Engineering
(Or +4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree)
Active Secret clearance (minimum).
Required certifications (must upload copies with submission):
Architect Certification: Azure Solutions Architect (preferred) or equivalent cloud architect cert
Security Certification: Security+ or IAT II/IAT III equivalent
Hands-on experience designing and deploying cloud systems in Azure Government (minimum 3 years).
Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud container orchestration.
Strong experience with IaC using Terraform and ARM.
Knowledge of SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, and cloud deployment models (public/private/hybrid).
Understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and cloud security.
Experience with DevOps pipelines and tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Jira.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and DoD cloud security requirements.
Experience with DAF CLOUDWorks or multi-cloud architectures.
Experience with Power BI or cyber threat intelligence tools.
Knowledge of advanced analytics, AI/ML models, or data engineering.
