About the Role
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) Mechanisms Manager will lead a small, high performing team of 10 to 12 mechanisms engineers while personally contributing to the design and development of spacecraft mechanical systems and subsystems. This role combines team leadership, hands-on engineering, and cross-functional collaboration to advance Northrop Grumman's strategic space initiatives.

Primary Level Salary Range: $121,000.00 - $181,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as functional manager for 10-12 engineers (10-20% of time).
- Perform mechanism specification, procurement, design, assembly, and test (80-90% of time).
- Oversee project cost and technical performance while meeting program staffing needs.
- Provide mentorship, motivation, and guidance to direct reports.
- Participate in hiring, training, and career development to build a high-performing team.
- Champion process improvement, employee engagement, and adherence to shared design practices and standards.
- Support capital procurement by recommending tools, equipment, and facilities.
- Contribute to Mechanisms IRAD initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or equivalent) with 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Leadership experience in organizing design activities, building teams, and assessing technical performance.
- Ability to work independently, secure internal support, and build collaborative relationships with technical staff and program management.
- Demonstrated ability to design, specify, and build moving mechanical assemblies or mechanism components for space.
- Ability to work full-time onsite at Dulles or Colshire campuses.
- Proficiency in CAD (preferably Creo Parametric).
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with bearings, springs, moving parts, coatings, and precision electromechanical devices.
- Active DoD TS clearance or willingness to obtain one.
- Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing documentation.
- Familiarity with spacecraft layout and design fundamentals.
