Position Summary
The Mid-Level Network Engineer supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. This mid-level role involves troubleshooting complex network issues, supporting upgrades, and collaborating with IT teams to deliver scalable solutions. The Network Engineer will monitor network performance, enforce security protocols, and assist in planning for future network growth. This position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
This position may require after-hours and on-call support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the design, configuration, installation, and testing of new Cisco routing and switching network devices within a large enterprise, by following standardized design and implementation documentation, instructions, and procedures.
- Work in close coordination with the Network Delivery Teams, Lead Network Engineer, project managers, network architects, and engineers from other service areas to develop a unified solution, design and implementation plan.
- Serve as the networking expert assigned to projects providing technical contribution to facilitate project completion in order to satisfy contractual requirements according to high-level architectural designs.
- Provide specific detailed information for Cisco hardware and software selection, Cisco Software Defined Access (SD[1] Access) implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
- Work as a member of the network delivery engineering team, review documentation to ensure engineering quality, and maintain responsibility for projects and tasks assigned to the team.
- Receive hands-on experience with the latest Cisco hardware and technology, such as Software Defined Networking.
- Have occasional other duties that may include troubleshooting support of escalated network Operations and Maintenance (O&M) connectivity issues on the Local Area Network as well as with remote site customers and mentoring assistance for junior and mid-level network engineers on the team.
- Have demonstrated expertise with current Cisco switching and routing platforms, technology, protocols, and configuration.
- Have demonstrated team building, leadership, mentoring, or instructing skills.
- Be able to perform site surveys, installing and configuring network solutions, assist in data collection and validation efforts at each service location.
- Be able to maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware interconnection and interfacing, such as Cisco routers and switches.
- Be familiar with firewall technology, IP addressing, sub-netting, multicast, VOIP and DNS.
- Be able to create detailed design and implementation documentation, instructions, and procedures for other team members to follow.
- Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification or higher
- Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Highschool Diploma
- Must have 6, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
- May be reduced with completion of advanced education
- Must have 4 years of directly related network experience
- Must have hands on network experience with a solid understanding of Cisco internal and external routing protocols
- Must have experience that includes configuring and troubleshooting Cisco network devices.
- Must have experience with physical layer cabling standards for interconnection between network devices
- Have a current Cisco certification such as CCNA or CCNP
- Have experience with Cisco Software Defined Networking products including, Identity Services Engine (ISE), Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) Center or Cisco vManage.
- Have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level III Certification
- Have experience performing technical validation of network designs in accordance with industry best practices and DoD policies and guidelines
- Have experience in requirements development and management
- Have knowledge of digital modeling and engineering tools (i.e. CML, Rhapsody, etc…) or architecture frameworks (i.e. DoDAF, etc…)
- Be familiar with Cisco Software-Defined Networking technologies
- Be familiar with Remedy Action Request System Be familiar with SolarWinds
- Be familiar with SQL, Access, and VBA
- Be familiar with multicast technologies
- Be familiar with DoD HAIPE devices such as General Dynamics KG-175 TACLANE
- Have a general understanding of a current scripting language or database operations
- Be familiar with DISA and/or commercial circuit connectivity
