SDN Engineer - Network Engineering

Contract Position

Pay Estimated: $62.58-$67.58/Hour

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors, (geographical location, etc.)

Active Secret Clearance Required to Start

Contribute to a company at the forefront of mission-critical systems and technologies in defense and security. This leader in global defense integrates advanced technology to deliver information and insights on the battlefield, offering roles that support security and technological superiority across multiple domains.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop SDN (Software-Defined Networking) solutions to optimize network performance, scalability, and flexibility
• Deploy and manage SDN controllers (e.g., OpenDaylight, ONOS) and network virtualization technologies
• Integrate SDN platforms including Modular RF, Seeker, and Viasat NetAgility into multi-transport systems
• Automate network provisioning, configuration, and management using scripting languages (Python, Java, C++)
• Participate in network architecture design and capacity planning
• Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues, delivering timely resolutions
• Maintain up-to-date SDN documentation, including architecture, configuration, and standard procedures
• Stay current on emerging SDN trends and best practices
• Provide technical support and training to engineering teams and stakeholders

Qualifications:

• U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field
  - Master's degree acceptable with reduced experience requirement
• 8+ years of relevant experience, or 6+ years with a Master's degree
• Active DoD Secret security clearance required at time of hire
• Strong experience in network engineering and SDN implementation
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or C++
• Hands-on experience with SDN controllers (e.g., OpenDaylight, ONOS)
• Knowledge of network virtualization platforms
• Familiarity with cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure)
• Experience with SDN tools and platforms: Modular RF, Seeker, Viasat NetAgility
• Experience working with embedded Linux systems
• Agile development experience preferred
• On-site work or travel may be required based on project needs
