Team Submarine's Submarine Program Offices are responsible for :
The acquisition of COLUMBIA Class Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E) and Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) of the class. The program is a major defense acquisition program and is of significant political importance with Congress and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).
The acquisition of VIRGINIA Class Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and Fleet introduction of the U.S. Navy's newest class of nuclear attack submarines. The program is a major defense acquisition program with a total life cycle cost of approximately $336B. Additionally, successful improvement of the Class' capabilities is of significant political importance with Congress and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).
The SSN(X) Office is responsible for the acquisition and design of the future fast attack submarine and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E) and Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) of the future submarine. The future Attack Submarine will be designed to retain multi-mission capability and sustained combat presence in denied waters with a focus on greater speed, stealth, and horizontal payloads and salvo rates.
Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their Team Submarine contract supporting the acquisition of submarines. The Team Submarine concept unifies once diverse submarine-related activities into a single submarine-centric organization with the goal of eliminating traditional stovepipe structures and processes that created impediments and inefficiencies in the submarine research, development, acquisition, and maintenance communities. Team Submarine provides improved communication among the various offices that contribute to the overall success of the United States Submarine Force.
Serco-NA is seeking a motivated individual to provide help to the MIB Director in PEO SSBN/ASN-RDA by standing up programs and engaging with Suppliers within Industry in aspects related to Metal Additive Manufacturing to include Laser Powder Bed Infusion, Power Directed Energy Deposition, Electron Beam Wire Directed Energy, Wire-Arc Directed Energy Disposition. This individual will assist in engaging with suppliers within the maritime industrial base on matters related to Additive Manufacturing to include scanning, methods, metallurgy, certification, and subtractive manufacturing to produce parts that will be used on submarines and surface ships. In this capacity you will demonstrate expertise in how additive manufacturing, concepts, procedures, and machinery can lead to more efficient and productive manufacturing in the Maritime Industrial Base with an emphasis on how to address obsolescence parts or those that can be manufactured more efficiently than perhaps casting. The primary focus will be in support of submarine suppliers, but your efforts will benefit the broader maritime industrial base. This position will be filled remotely within the continental United States. This position will be filled remotely in Oakland, CA as you work from your home or travel to engage with suppliers .

In this role, you will:
- This individual will assess the Maritime Industrial Base in its adoption of metal additive manufacturing and develop an understanding of the overall requirements and challenges faced by submarine suppliers.
- This individual will interface with MIB suppliers to understand their industrial environment, equipment, and integration of additive manufacturing.
- Works with multiple stakeholders across the region to expedite evaluation of additively manufactured parts from legacy Naval drawings. This includes quality assurance provisions, lead time estimates and on time delivery of components.
- Work with the MIB team which is spread across the United States and is focused on workforce development/marketing, supply chain/sustainment, and technology developments.
- This individual will assist the Maritime Industrial Base in its adoption of metal additive manufacturing. This will include but is not limited to the manual transition of legacy Naval components traditional made using casting and forging methods to additive manufacturing.
- Lead suppliers by providing technical directions to establish and validate process capability to meet Naval standards, test, and quality requirements. Evaluate prospective suppliers regarding production capability & quality management.
- Routinely communicate KPI metrics for various programs to the senior level executives.
- Develop and maintain healthy and successful relationships with local and regional workforce and economic development organizations through constant communication.
- Research and write in depth reports and papers for special development projects to Congress on programs findings.
- Understand supplier capabilities and execute supplier oversight activities, which include phone assessments, surveys, quality reviews, and supplier corrective action reconciliation.
- Works closely with submarine shipbuilding suppliers to address critical workforce, supply chain, and manufacturing issues they face.
- Evaluates projects and initiatives including capital projects that will increase throughput capacity in the maritime industrial base.
- Develops relationships with local and regional workforce and economic development organizations.
- Travels to regional entities to meet with local stakeholders and suppliers about additive manufacturing techniques.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Bachelor's degree in hard science or engineering discipline
- 8 years professional experience
- Metal Additive Manufacturing knowledge/techniques/experience/understanding is essential .
- An understanding of the industrial manufacturing ecosystem is essential.
- Knowledge of additive manufacturing industrial equipment is essential.
- Functional understanding of the metal AM processes such as Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Powder Directed Energy Deposition, Electron Beam Wire Directed Energy, Wire-Arc Directed Energy Deposition - and the personal drive to work well with others who are specialists in this field to solve complex manufacturing issues.
- This individual should have experience managing First Article Inspection (FAI) for industry leading manufacturing processes including additive manufacturing, CNC, casting, and forging.
- Experience/knowledge of the maritime/submarine industrial base and working within DoD is required
- 2 years of experience with additive manufacturing to include Navy alloys, scanning, reverse engineering, and design. Specifically addressing part obsolescence and long lead time limitations related to US Navy Submarines.

- Functional experience using modern parametric CAD systems (Solidworks, CREO, NX) to create 3D models and 2D drawings is a plus.

- Functional experience working with manufacturing equipment to produce parts from 3D/2D CAD is a plus.
- Functional understanding of the software/hardware and workflow using metal 3D printing to produce parts is a plus.
