Kentro is hiring a highly skilled Cybersecurity Technical Lead to provide cross-functional leadership and serve as the primary technical coordinator for the Department of Commerce (DOC) and the Office of Cybersecurity Risk Management (OCRM). The role focuses on leading and supporting the Department's High-Value Assets (HVA) and Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) programs, ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity standards, managing assessments, and coordinating with system owners and stakeholders.
Along with the HVA and FISMA portfolios, this role provides high-level technical oversight and visibility across other OCRM cybersecurity workstreams, including Security Engineering, Cyber Audit, Policy & Compliance, Cyber Liaison, Training, and Governance, to ensure alignment, communication, and integration without taking on deep operational responsibilities.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks, practical experience supporting FISMA activities, familiarity with HVA program requirements, and the ability to coordinate and lead multidisciplinary technical teams. Prior experience supporting DOC, OIG/GAO audits, or federal cybersecurity programs is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:
High Value Asset (HVA) Program: Serve as the Cybersecurity Technical Lead supporting DOC's HVA Program, including:
- Support the HVA Program Manager in leading the full lifecycle: identification, validation, prioritization, assessments, reporting, remediation, and governance.
- Maintain and manage the DOC HVA inventory, ensuring consistency with federal criteria and guiding system owners (~17-20% of DOC systems are designated HVAs).
- Advise HVA owners on roles, responsibilities, assessment expectations, and compliance obligations.
- Review HVA assessments, evidence packages, reports, remediation plans, and architectural documentation for quality and completeness.
- Coordinate across DOC bureaus, system owners, OCIO offices, and external entities such as DHS, CISA, and OMB.
- Lead HVA outreach sessions, workshops, and biannual data calls; support knowledge sharing and standardization across program participants.
- Represent the Department in interagency working groups and advocate for DOC HVA interests.
- Support incident response coordination for events impacting HVAs.
- Provide recommendations to the Senior Agency Official for Risk Management (SAORM) regarding HVA posture, risks, and compliance trends.
FISMA & Cybersecurity Compliance: Serve as a Technical Lead providing support across DOC FISMA activities:
- Provide subject matter expertise in FISMA, RMF, CSF 2.0, cybersecurity controls, and federal reporting expectations.
- Support preparation and completion of FISMA deliverables, including SSP updates, evidence collection, documentation review, and continuous monitoring activities.
- Drive progress on FISMA reporting drafts and ensure alignment with federal cybersecurity guidance.
- Support POA&M reviews, vulnerability management coordination, control implementation tracking, and quality assurance of system documentation.
- Ensure FISMA compliance activities remain aligned with OMB memoranda, DHS/CISA directives, and DOC policies.
Secondary Responsibilities - Cross-Functional Technical Oversight (High-Level)
- Provide high-level technical oversight across other OCRM cybersecurity workstreams, including Engineering, Cyber Audit/JCAM, Policy & Governance, Cyber Liaison, Training, and Governance - by maintaining situational awareness, monitoring activities that intersect with HVA and FISMA, participating in key meetings, and ensuring alignment and communication across teams without assuming deep operational responsibility.
Location: 100% On Site in Washington D.C.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years supporting federal cybersecurity programs.
- Prior experience supporting the Department of Commerce (DOC) cybersecurity program
- Demonstrated experience with FISMA, RMF, CSF 2.0, and federal cybersecurity compliance.
- Familiarity with HVA program requirements, DHS/CISA guidance, and OMB policies.
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage and integrate multiple technical workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DHS/CISA HVA assessments or cross-agency cybersecurity coordination.
- Cybersecurity or project management certifications (e.g., Security+, CAP, CISSP, PMP, CAPM).
- Experience with system assessments, audits, or continuous monitoring tools.
Clearance Requirement:
- Active or ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
