Viasat is looking for an Environmental Test Engineer to join our growing team.
You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including systems test engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, program managers and mechanical engineers just to name a few. You will get exposure to many phases of the development lifecycle: evaluation of requirements, trade studies, design and unit test including engineering/confidence, design verification, regression and qualification. You will have the autonomy to complete your tasks but also have access to hard-working engineers and domain experts to help you succeed.

Salary range
$67,500.00 - $106,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $83,500.00- $125,500.00/ annually

The day-to-day
This position is intended for a university student in their last year of school to work part time starting December 2025 through graduation in Spring 2026, and then join full time.
You can expect to work on a wide variety of tasks to include:
- Support System Engineering to flow down design validation and qualification test requirements
- Create environmental test procedures to validate device under test (DUT)
- Support Mechanical Engineering with test fixtures and design creation
- Perform testing on product and capture data for follow on analysis
- Program and operate test equipment such as thermal/humidity chambers, vibration/shaker table, drip test apparatus and drop test table
- Design and support new capabilities in our ever growing Environmental test labs
- This position is located onsite. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Relocation assistance is available pending eligibility.

What you'll need
- Education:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026
- Experience: This role is intended for someone with 0-3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience
- Citizenship: This position requires U.S. citizenship
- Additional:
- Hands on experience working with tools on mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Class work or exposure to basic electronic design and/or assembly and AC/DC circuits.
- Class work or exposure to Solidworks or similar CAD software.
- Ability to analyze requirements, develop test plans/procedures, and document test results
- Excellent communications skills (written and oral)
- Ability to work independently and tackle complex problems with minimal assistance
- Ability to travel to outside test facilities (typically Anaheim area)
- Ability to obtain a United States Secret Clearance
What will help you on the job
- A strong Mechanical Engineering background and experience with mechanical assembly
- Previous Viasat internship experience
- Experience in the operation of some of the following equipment: Multi-meter, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer and data acquisition systems
- A working knowledge of SolidWorks
- Experience with engineering drawings
- Experience with SolidWorks, SolidEdge, or Creo
