Qualifications
GS 06:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following:
1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade;
2) Performing rescue operations;
3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards;
4) Operating fire communications equipment; and
5) Controlling hazardous materials incidents.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR BOTH GRADE LEVELS:

- You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident.
- You will drive a firefighting vehicle (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck, rescue truck, brush truck, quick-attack vehicle, airport rescue fire fighting vehicle) to the scene of a fire.
- You will comply with health and safety rules and procedures while treating victims.
- You will perform structural firefighting duties for facilities to minimize fire damage.
- You will maneuver equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles) when combating fires.
