We are seeking a SysOps Engineer to join a high-impact team responsible for sustaining and evolving secure, cloud-based systems critical to national defense operations. This role offers hands-on experience with AWS, CI/CD pipelines, systems administration, and cybersecurity best practices. As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to the maintenance, deployment, and continuous improvement of mission-critical services hosted in the AWS cloud. While the position begins as 100% on-site at Scott AFB, candidates may become eligible for hybrid remote work based on project needs and performance.
Ideal for early-career professionals, this role supports growth in cloud infrastructure management, automation, and security operations, with strong potential for AWS certification and long-term career advancement. You will gain real-world experience working in a secure Department of Defense (DoD) environment and play a part in keeping essential systems running securely and efficiently.

What you will do:
Monitor AWS-hosted infrastructure, system logs, and security events to ensure uptime, compliance, and performance.
Support the deployment of production updates using Jenkins pipelines and scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
Troubleshoot and assist with the operation of Windows IIS servers, Oracle RDS databases, and Docker-based applications.
Participate in certificate lifecycle management (SSL/TLS), including renewals and troubleshooting.
Support functional service representatives (FSRs) by investigating and resolving user-reported issues using structured playbooks.
Assist in maintaining secure and compliant operations aligned with DoD cybersecurity policies

What we like to see:
A proactive mindset and interest in cloud infrastructure, automation, and security best practices.
A desire to grow professionally and pursue AWS or related certifications.
Ability to follow structured troubleshooting processes and standard documentation practices.
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

You should be familiar with:
AWS services and cloud environments (basic knowledge is acceptable—training provided).
CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins or similar automation pipelines.
Scripting tools like PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
System monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting techniques.
Basic networking and cybersecurity concepts.
Windows Server environments and container technologies (e.g., Docker).

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems) or equivalent work experience.
1–3 years of experience in IT operations, cloud support, or system administration.
Active Security+ certification (required prior to start).

Preferred Qualifications:
AWS certification (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner or Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate).
Experience with Windows IIS, Oracle RDS, or Docker containers.
Prior exposure to federal or defense-related IT systems.
This position is initially 100% on-site at Scott Air Force Base (SAFB), with the potential for hybrid remote work based on performance and project needs. This position also requires a government security clearance, so candidates must be U.S. citizens and eligible for work without a visa sponsorship.
