The successful Senior Principal Strategic Communications Representative will use experience and passion for integrated communications storytelling, combined with the understanding of strategic communications development, executive thought leadership, media relations, exceptional project management skills and knowledge of industry trends. This role will help communicate the Defense Systems strategy to external and internal stakeholders.

The position will be based in McLean, VA.

General Roles and Responsibilities
  • Strategic Development
    • Conceptualize, craft and execute strategic communications plans and operational models intended to bolster executive thought leadership for the organization and for priority business programs and capabilities
    • Demonstrate strong partnership and collaboration with peers, managers, directors and leadership to bring communications strategy, storytelling and thought leadership to life through various communications channels and tactics
    • Develop an integrated, comprehensive view of business goals and objectives and apply that knowledge to integrated communications - both through partnerships and value-add support across the Defense Systems Sector.
    • Seeks out strategic solutions to a variety of situations such as program or capability proof-points to any given external campaign
    • Demonstrated success at leading strategic planning and execution with a level of autonomy while maintaining accountability to broader team
  • Project Management
    • Demonstrated ability to comprehend operational landscape, anticipate next steps and lead collaboration to achieve success against plans
    • Fundamental experience in developing and managing project timelines and a proven track record of meeting deadlines
    • Ability to conceive, develop and execute operations in support of strategic communications efforts
    • Ability to provide status updates to various stakeholders and the progress or any adjustments that may occur across multiple campaigns
    • Coordinating with cross-discipline team members to make sure all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines and schedules
    • Coordinating the development of any documents, meetings or other assets needed to enable success of a campaign


Qualifications for Strategic Communications Rep
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of responsibilities daily
  • The successful person will have a resourceful nature, be able to build relationships with a variety of people and functions, and have a general sense of urgency in completing tasks on time and with accuracy
  • A team player with outstanding communication, presenting, organizational and writing skills
  • Must exhibit a problem-solving aptitude; identify challenges quickly, conceptualize solutions, present resolutions effectively and execute path forward with authority
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 14 years experience in Marketing, Advertising, Business or relevant field; OR Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years experience in Marketing, Advertising, Business or relevant field; OR Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years years experience in Marketing, Advertising, Business or relevant field


Primary Level Salary Range: $113,500.00 - $170,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
