Embedded Cyber Software Engineer - Ground Combat Vehicles

Join a fast-moving, self-directed engineering team focused on embedded software development for cybersecurity and C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) systems across a family of ground combat vehicles. This role supports full product development-from architecture and integration through validation and accreditation-in a mission-critical defense environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop embedded software for secure military vehicle systems using C, C++, C#, Java, or Rust.
- Apply computer science and mathematical principles to real-time, security-enhanced systems.
- Support Cyber and C5ISR product development, architecture evaluation, testing, and compliance.
- Integrate and evaluate hardware/software interfaces, ensuring proper system-level performance.
- Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and integration.
- Perform BSP development and low-level device driver programming on Linux or VxWorks platforms.
- Develop software tools, scripts, and XML configurations to support cyber applications and system validation.
- Configure firewalls and implement cybersecurity controls for embedded systems.
- Conduct reverse engineering, protocol transformation, and interoperability development between networks/domains.
- Support trade studies for cyber test tools, environments, and design decisions considering performance, cost, and reliability.
- Review technical contract deliverables (CDRLs) and ensure system-level compliance.
- Participate in peer reviews, defect tracking, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field from an ABET-accredited institution.
- DoD Secret clearance or higher (must be active).
- Experience in embedded systems and cyber-secure software development, especially for military or automotive platforms.
- Proficiency in C, C++, C#, Java, or Rust for embedded systems.
- Experience with Linux or VxWorks internals, device drivers, and BSP integration.
- Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UART, SPI, I2C).
- Familiarity with IDE tools, version control, defect tracking, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to configure and secure embedded Linux systems and assess system vulnerabilities.
- Ability to climb vehicles and navigate confined spaces (must meet Anthropometric Size Restrictions).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting Cybersecurity compliance for DoD systems.
- Familiarity with reverse engineering, firewall integration, and inter-domain protocol transformation.
- Exposure to electronic hardware, line-replaceable units, or vehicle network integration.
- Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or equivalent are a plus.
- Ability to work non-standard hours (nights/weekends) as needed by program milestones.
