Senior Linux Systems Administrator to support a mid-sized Red Hat Linux environment with enterprise-level requirements. The selected candidate will perform advanced systems administration for Red Hat 8/9 servers, Red Hat Identity Management (IdM), and Red Hat Ansible Automation, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security across mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and operate multi-user computer systems and cloud infrastructure.
Develop and design core operating system builds, including coding, virtualization, and automation.
Set up and manage administrator/service accounts and system documentation.
Monitor and tune system performance, perform capacity planning, and manage mass storage allocations.
Implement system-wide software installations and perform OS/application patching.
Assess and resolve user access/security issues to minimize risk exposure.
Lead system hardening and cyber security compliance initiatives.
Evaluate vendor products and oversee vendor performance tracking.
Serve as an escalation point for unresolved incidents.
Draft IT communications for end-users (e.g., outage/downtime notifications).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Linux 8/9.
Experience deploying and maintaining network services (GitLab/GitHub, Apache Web Server, NFS).
Centralized account management experience (Red Hat IdM or Free IPA preferred).
Security certifications (Security+, Linux+, or equivalent) — required or ability to obtain.
Proven understanding of system hardening and DoD compliance (preferred).
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Red Hat Virtualization).
Linux networking configuration (SSH, NFS, host-based firewalls, web servers).
Experience with PKI, Multi-Factor Authentication, and PIV technologies.
Expertise in Linux kernel tuning and performance analysis.
Experience with McAfee Suite, scripting, storage management, and disaster recovery.
Familiarity with remote KVM technologies.
Education & Experience
BS in Computer Science or related field + 5 years of experience, or
MS in Computer Science or related field + 2 years of experience.
