DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position typically is responsible for the planning, managing and technical performance of one or more significant data science unit(s).
- Manages all phases of assigned data science project(s) from inception through completion. Responsibilities may require the integration of multiple disciplines and departments.
- Participates with technical staff, program managers and/or Division/Group executive management to develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives for the unit(s).
- May also contribute to the development of annual and long-term objectives for the Division/Group.
- Objectives are typically accomplished through subordinate science managers and/or team leaders.
- May be responsible for decisions that have an extended impact on outcomes where erroneous decisions could result in critical delays and modifications to projects.
- Manages the activities of a data science team responsible for the design, development, programming methods, processes and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse 'big data' sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for businesses across the company.
- Manages the development of software programs, algorithms and automated processes that cleanse, integrate and evaluate large data sets from multiple disparate sources.
- Communicates meaningful, actionable insights from large data and metadata sources to stakeholders.
- Interacts with management and customer representatives concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements and contractual clarification.
- Act as primary contact for science activities.
- Participates in the resolution of data science issues which may be complex and provide leadership in developing solutions. 6.Participates in the development and implementation of current, annual and long-term computer/information systems objectives for the unit(s).
- May participate in the development of unit/Division/Group annual and long-term business objectives.
- May participate in the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities.
- May participate with Group management in pursuing business partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures that enhance the capabilities of the Group/Company.
- Manage the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of human resources to ensure the availability of the required professional and technical talent.
Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in data science, applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related technical/quantitative discipline from an accredited institution as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex experience in data science. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with Counterintelligence Polygraph is required.
- Must demonstrate
- An extensive technical expertise and application of data science principles, concepts, theory, and practice
- Comprehensive project management and leadership skills that include organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones
- The ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.
- Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
- Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
