Leidos, a leading defense, intelligence, and technology company, is seeking a motivated Transport Network Engineer Intern to join our Digital Modernization Group on the Global Solutions Management – Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at Scott AFB, IL. As part of our team, you'll contribute to the operations, sustainment, and defense of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) within the DOD Information Network (DODIN), supporting the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

Your Opportunity:
We're seeking driven and capable candidates to join our GSM-O team! As a Transport Network Engineer Intern on our Operational Engineering team, you will directly support network operations and engineering functions, contributing to the reliability and security of critical communication infrastructure.
What You'll Do:
• Support the design, development, and modification of network management systems in support of approved hardware and software technical refresh and upgrades.
• Assist in the deployment of new network hardware (shelves, cards) on operational nodes, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
• Monitor network changes, analyzing traffic behavior and customer reporting to proactively identify and mitigate potential impacts.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices for network operation and maintenance.
• Provide ad-hoc engineering support, gathering and analyzing data, creating flowcharts, and recommending optimal network configurations based on engineering documents and practical experience.
• Assist in performing fault isolation, analysis, and troubleshooting across various transport platforms (SONET, DWDM, TDM, cryptographic systems), collaborating with engineers, vendors, and customers to determine root cause.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all activities in ServiceNow ITSM+ trouble tickets.
• Assist in providing timely and informative situational awareness reporting to management.
• Support Authorized Service Interruption (ASI) activities, collecting site and device data to schedule maintenance windows and coordinate technician dispatch.
What You'll Bring:
• Actively pursuing a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology) from an accredited college/university.
• Eagerness to develop proficiency in one or more Transport platforms: CIENA 6500, CIENA Corestream, Cisco NCS2K, CISCO MSPP 15454/15310, SYCAMORE ODXC 16K/9K, XTERA, and other ancillary equipment.
• Ability to obtain an interim Secret DoD Security clearance prior to the start date (Leidos sponsorship provided).
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Geographic Requirement: This position is based on-site at Scott AFB, Illinois.
• Reliable transportation to Scott AFB is required.
