Entry-level position focused on foundational system administration and networking with progression toward F5 specialization through structured on-the-job training.
Role Summary
This role serves as an entry-level position supporting network and system administration functions with an emphasis on F5 technologies. The Junior Network Engineer (F5-Track) will work under the supervision of senior engineers to perform foundational administrative tasks, assist in network operations, and progress toward independent management of F5 BIG-IP configurations through structured on-the-job training.
Core Responsibilities
• Assist in network and system administration including account setup, patching, and monitoring.
• Execute documented, low-risk change steps during maintenance windows under supervision.
• Learn to interpret F5 BIG-IP objects (virtual servers, pools, nodes, monitors, profiles).
• Support SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle tasks using approved runbooks.
• Maintain up-to-date network documentation including diagrams, port matrices, and runbooks.
• Assist in incident response activities such as data collection and log analysis.
• Complete a defined F5 learning plan and internal skills checkout milestones.
Minimum Qualifications
• U.S. Citizen; active or eligible for Secret clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field as outlined above.
• CompTIA Security+ certification (must be current).
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, routing/switching, and DNS.
• Basic familiarity with Windows/Linux administration and security best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
• Interest in F5 BIG-IP load balancing concepts and willingness to pursue certification.
• Experience with scripting (Python, PowerShell) for automation tasks.
• Exposure to ticketing and documentation systems (Jira, Confluence, SharePoint).
Success Metrics
• Zero unplanned outages due to junior-initiated changes in first 90 days.
• 100% adherence to runbook and change documentation standards.
• Completion of internal F5 BIG-IP basic checkout by Week 12.
