Overview

The Senior Marine Engineering Technician - On-Site Supervisor oversees and performs the technical operation, maintenance, and repair of all Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems aboard the client's vessel and associated range support equipment. This position provides day-to-day leadership to contractor personnel performing maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and corrective actions on diesel propulsion, electrical power, HVAC, fuel, and auxiliary systems. The Senior Technician ensures all work is performed in compliance with the client's standards and is responsible for maintaining the vessel's operational readiness, safety, and configuration documentation both in port and at sea.

Acting as the on-site lead, this position coordinates daily tasking, resource allocation, and preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring all labor and materials are efficiently managed to meet contract performance requirements. The Senior Marine Engineering Technician interfaces directly with the point of contact and inspectors to provide progress updates and ensures timely submission of required reports such as the Preventive Maintenance Plan (PMP) and Maintenance Summary Log (MSL).

Responsibilities

The Senior Marine Engineering Technician - On-Site Supervisor leads and performs technical oversight, operation, and maintenance of the vessel's hull, mechanical, and electrical systems. This position ensures safe, compliant, and mission-ready performance of all systems while supervising assigned personnel in both in-port and at-sea environments.
  • Supervise day-to-day maintenance and operations of the vessel's HM&E systems, ensuring compliance with client standards.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of technicians and trades personnel performing mechanical, electrical, welding, and auxiliary system maintenance and repair.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, schedules, and resource allocation to support preventive and corrective maintenance requirements.
  • Oversee operation and troubleshooting of diesel generators, propulsion systems, fuel systems, power distribution, HVAC, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Conduct inspections and readiness checks using approved checklists before each underway or test mission to verify system status
  • Ensure timely documentation of maintenance activities in the Maintenance Summary Log (MSL) and integration with the Preventive Maintenance Plan (PMP).
  • Interface with the client's point of contact, inspectors, and program managers to report vessel condition, coordinate repairs, and support readiness reviews.
  • Perform hands-on technical maintenance, diagnostics, and repair when complex or time-critical issues arise.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and cross-functional crew members in shipboard maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and hazardous material handling requirements.
  • Participate in mandatory at-sea drills such as firefighting, damage control, and abandon ship, ensuring crew readiness
  • Coordinate logistics for fuel, potable water, provisions, and consumables to support extended at-sea missions
  • Monitor and enforce quality, safety, and performance standards for all maintenance activities and subcontractor work.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Additional coursework or certifications in supervisory leadership, safety, or quality control beneficial
  • U.S. Coast Guard-Approved Basic Firefighting Course (or refresher within the past five years) or able within 45 days of hire
  • U.S. Coast Guard-Approved Advance firefighting Course (or refresher within the past five years) or able within 45 days of hire.
  • U.S. Coast Guard-Approved Able Bodied Seaman Course - current or able to be completed within 45 days of hire.
  • U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certificate (CG-719K) with medical practitioner attestation of food handler certification.
  • In-depth understanding of marine engineering systems, including hull, mechanical and electrical (HM&E) components, diesel engines and auxiliary systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of NAVSEA, ABS, and USCG maintenance and safety standards
  • Familiarity with Preventative Maintenance Programs (PMP), Maintenance Summary Logs (MSL)
  • Proficiency in diagnostic and repair procedures for diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and vessel auxiliary equipment.
  • Secret Clearance Required
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Minimum Skills:
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, capable of directing diverse trade personnel in high-tempo environments
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills for maintaining technical logs, inspection records, and compliance reports
  • Able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to provide reports, updates, and technical briefings
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast past environment with changing priorities; adaptable to change and a quick learner.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or higher in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Completion of formal training in marine systems maintenance, diesel mechanics, or electrical systems from a U.S. Navy "A" or "C" school, or equivalent civilian program, highly desirable.
