Amentum is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Technical Writer/Illustrator supporting PM Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Program Executive Office Ground Combat Systems (PEO GCS) at or near the Detroit Arsenal. This position is in office daily. Other duties may be assigned to support client and contract deliverables. Travel may be required but estimated at less than 10%.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Writes and updates material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance.
• Studies production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
• Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
• Reviews manufacturers and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service.
• Studies blueprints, flowcharts, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
• Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
• Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
• Maintains records and files of work and revisions.
• Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. May assist in laying out material for publication.
• Arrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of material. May write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases.
• Explain highly technical data and information in simplistic grade school language for end users of complex military systems and projects.
• Able to use a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and scheduling tools.
• Gather and convert data into a written narrative.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in English, business, engineering or other related field or Associate degree and 5+ years of experience with Technical writing, Illustrating, military, or government related duties.
• 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.
• Experience using ArborText or comparable eXtensible Markup Language (XML) editing software.
• Ability to develop, edit, manipulate illustrations and artwork with Adobe illustrator, Photoshop or comparable software
• Must have and active SECRET US Government Clearance, Amentum may be able to sponsor a clearance as part of the onboarding process.
Preferred Qualifications:
• General Experience or knowledge in technical manual development specifically in writing and editing US Army Technical Publications (operator and field maintainer technical manuals, or NMWRs).
• Solid understanding/experience with Army maintenance structure and AR 40051.
• Knowledge of Ground Combat Tactical Weapon systems (Stryker).
