We are seeking an exceptional Robotics Engineer (Technical SETA - DARPA BTO Support) to serve as Science, Engineering, Technology, and Analysis (SETA) support to the DARPA Biological Technologies Office (BTO). In this role, you will contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge biotechnology through the development of autonomous systems for tactical combat casualty care (TCCC), including stand-off casualty assessment, evacuation, and surgical interventions in austere environments. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in sensor technology, robotic training methodologies, and rigorous testing protocols. Experience with medical devices is highly desirable. You will collaborate closely with Program Managers (PMs) and a multi-disciplinary SETA team to iteratively develop innovative program concepts, incorporating feedback from peers and leadership. Your expertise will complement that of subject matter experts in medicine and machine learning, collectively driving the creation of advanced autonomous technologies to support field operators, such as combat medics and surgeons, with the ultimate goal of improving warfighter survivability. Our team comprises DARPA veterans and individuals bringing fresh perspectives from outside the agency. Regardless of background, a crucial element of success in this role is the ability to rapidly understand and adhere to agency expectations for effective program execution. Collaboration is paramount, and you will work closely with technical subject experts across diverse fields to achieve program goals aimed at revolutionizing TCCC.

Responsibilities
- Provide expert technical support to Program Managers (PMs) during ideation, offering insights and guidance to develop and refine program concepts. This involves continuous collaboration with PMs and cross-functional teams to create compelling program pitches that effectively communicate ideas and incorporate feedback.
- Conduct proactive and rigorous analytical assessments of state-of-the-art technologies to support PMs in evaluating potential solution development pathways.
- Engage with and gather information from key opinion leaders in academia, industry, and government. Analyze ongoing developments through scientific journals, public competitions, and research awards to ensure the team's understanding remains current and relevant.
- Provide expert scientific and technological guidance to PMs and internal stakeholders, empowering them to make informed decisions related to program strategy and execution.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively across a variety of media (face-to-face meetings, virtual collaboration platforms, email, and telephone) to facilitate knowledge transfer and understanding.
- Foster a collaborative environment by working effectively within interdisciplinary teams, bridging the gap between subject matter experts and operational users.
Qualifications
Required:
- An advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) in an engineering discipline, such as Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of autonomous systems (UAV, UGV, and UUV) across a range of payload capacities and dexterity levels.
- Proficiency in the design, training, prototyping, and rigorous testing of autonomous robotics systems operating in air, land, and sea environments.
- Expertise in perception sensor systems, large-scale signal acquisition, and advanced analysis techniques using cutting-edge machine learning tools.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and C++ programming languages.
- Practical experience with robotics frameworks, such as ROS.
- A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles, with a particular emphasis on control systems and sensor integration.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- The ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and design insights to a broad audience.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain, a minimum SECRET security clearance; up to TS/SCI eligibility as required by the position.
Preferred:
- Experience in the design and development of systems for medical applications.
- Knowledge of the FDA medical device approval process.
- Experience participating in or managing robotics competitions.
