Data Scientist (Cleared) — Defense AI & Analytics
Location: Hybrid | Washington, DC / Northern Virginia | Occasional SCIF visits as needed
Clearance: Active Secret or higher (ability to upgrade supported)
Employment Type: Full-time, salaried with benefits
🧭 About the Role:
We’re hiring on behalf of a mission-focused AI and analytics client that’s transforming how government and enterprise organizations use data to make smarter, faster decisions. Their platform combines machine learning, data visualization, and explainable AI to help analysts and mission users uncover insights from complex, multi-dimensional datasets.
As a Data Scientist, you’ll take ownership of the full lifecycle of model development — from problem framing and data exploration to production deployment and delivery. This is a hands-on, applied role working closely with mission stakeholders to design, train, and deploy machine learning models that have real operational impact.
🧠 What You’ll Do:
• Analyze, model, and visualize complex datasets to uncover actionable insights
• Build and deploy machine learning models (classification, regression, clustering, NLP, or time-series) from concept to production
• Integrate solutions with big data frameworks such as Databricks, Spark, or Kafka
• Ensure explainability, reproducibility, and performance of deployed models
• Collaborate with mission and enterprise users to translate data-driven insights into outcomes
• Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders in clear, interpretable ways
🧰 Core Technologies:
Languages & Frameworks: Python, pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch
Data & ML Engineering: Databricks, Spark, Dask, Airflow, Prefect, Celery, SQL/NoSQL (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Neo4j)
DevOps / Deployment: Docker, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar)
Visualization: matplotlib, seaborn, Power BI, Tableau
🌟 Required Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field
• Active Secret or higher clearance (TS/SCI upgrade supported)
• Located in or near the DC/Northern Virginia area and able to support SCIF-based work as needed
• 3+ years of professional experience developing and deploying production-grade ML models
• 3+ years of experience with Python and the broader data science ecosystem (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, matplotlib)
• 1+ year of hands-on ML production deployment experience using containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
• 1–2 years of experience with SQL/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, or graph databases)
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative software development workflows
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
⚙️ Desired (Highly Advantageous) Experience:
•Cyber analytics, PCAP analysis, network monitoring, CVE identification, or vulnerability detection experience
•Integration with big data ecosystems such as Spark, Dask, or Databricks
•Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Celery)
•Background in secure or classified environments (DoD, IC, or federal sector)
•Experience with Flask/Django or ML-driven web application integration
✅ Ideal Candidate Traits
• Strong fundamentals in Python, statistics, and machine learning
• Comfortable working with diverse data types and modeling techniques
• Clear communicator who can bridge technical and mission audiences
• Excited by the intersection of AI innovation and national security
• Hands-on builder who takes ownership of end-to-end model delivery
💰 Compensation & Perks
• Base salary: $140K–$175K depending on experience
• Hybrid flexibility (DC area) with occasional SCIF visits depending on project needs
• Opportunity for clearance upgrade (to TS/SCI)
• Full benefits — health, dental, vision, PTO, and professional development support
