Position Description (PD) for Senior Accountant
Position Title: Senior Accountant Status: Permanent/Full-Time Location: On-site North Charleston, SC
Scope of Work: Responsible for overseeing the financial records and transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance by performing complex accounting tasks like payroll, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and month-end closing procedures, often with a focus on analyzing financial data and providing insights to management for decision-making; assisting with external audits. The Senior Accountant will bridge the gap between regulatory demands and operational efficiency, transforming the challenges of government contracting into a competitive advantage for businesses seeking to secure and manage government contracts successfully.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Prepare, process, review and reconcile of semi-monthly payroll for 100+ employees
• Reconcile all general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
• Analyze business transactions and record appropriate journal entries.
• Assist in the month-end closing process, including preparing adjusting entries and reconciling accounts.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential risks, providing insights to management.
• Prepare accurate and compliant cost and pricing proposals, including information on cost structures, indirect rates (overhead, General & Administrative, fringe benefits), and justifications for proposed prices.
• Prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, monitoring actual performance against budget.
• Ensure compliance with internal control policies and procedures, identifying areas for improvement.
• Prepare documentation and assist external auditors during the audit process.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
• Minimum of eight (8) years of accounting experience, with at least three (3) years in government contracting
• Experience with Deltek CostPoint and strong understanding of its modules and functionalities.
• In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, conceptual, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to take initiative, organize tasks, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment, ensuring deadlines are met with attention to detail.
• Skilled in building strong, trusting relationships to gain support and achieve desired outcomes.
• Capable of managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
• Experience with cost accounting and project-based accounting, preferred.
• Familiarity with other ERP systems used in government contracting, preferred.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Proficiency with all Microsoft Office 365 applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook) required.
• Must be a US citizen and hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET clearance and possibly a TOP SECRET Security Clearance
