The Salesforce Technical Architect will serve as a key technical leader supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in advancing its Salesforce Center of Innovation (CoI). This role is responsible for designing scalable, secure, and high-performing Salesforce solutions that enable mission-critical operations across CBP. The Technical Architect will collaborate closely with government stakeholders, development teams, and integrators to ensure technical excellence, architectural consistency, and compliance with federal standards for all Salesforce initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as the lead architect for Salesforce solutions supporting CBP's mission and operational programs.

• Translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable Salesforce architectures.

• Provide technical leadership for design, configuration, integration, and deployment across multiple Salesforce orgs.

• Guide application development teams on best practices in Salesforce design, coding standards, and data modeling.

• Review and approve Technical Design Documents (TDDs) to ensure compliance with CBP and industry standards.

• Design and oversee Salesforce integrations with external systems using APIs, middleware, and integration patterns

• Support governance, release management, and DevSecOps processes within the Salesforce ecosystem.

• Partner with the Program Manager to ensure solution designs align with CBP's enterprise strategy and Cloud First objectives.

• Support performance optimization, data security, and compliance with FISMA, FedRAMP, and Salesforce Shield requirements.

• Mentor developers and administrators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

• Stay current on Salesforce releases, new technologies, and architectural patterns to drive innovation across the CBP platform.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Minimum of six (6) years of experience, with at least four (4) years supporting complex Salesforce projects and technical solutions.

• Deep understanding of the Salesforce platform architecture, including security model, data model design, and access controls.

• Proficiency in Salesforce integration methods (REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, message queues).

• Experience delivering production solutions and/or migrating legacy applications to Salesforce or other modern platforms.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to design effective and efficient technical solutions.

• Expertise in Agile software development and collaborative work in multi-disciplinary teams.

• Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and senior leadership.

• Familiarity with source control, release management, and deployment pipelines for Salesforce environments.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

• Experience with Salesforce Government Cloud and compliance with FedRAMP and DHS security standards.

• Familiarity with Salesforce Shield encryption and data protection strategies.

• Strong background with Salesforce DevSecOps pipelines and CI/CD automation.

• Experience developing or advising within federal environments, ideally supporting CBP or DHS programs.

• Proficiency with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence) and collaboration platforms.

• Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA) or Salesforce Application/Systems Architect certification preferred.

• Agile certification (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster, SAFe Practitioner) beneficial.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.

CLEARANCE:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation (BI) clearance.

• Remote
