Responsibilities

  • Lead Fire Crew Operations:
    Directs and controls a fire crew during both routine and emergency situations, ensuring effective response and safety using the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Operate and Maintain Apparatus & Equipment:
    Drives and operates all fire apparatus and specialized equipment; ensures daily checks, maintenance, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure Safety and Compliance:
    Enforces safety protocols, ensures proper use of PPE, and maintains adherence to company, personnel, and safety policies.
  • Conduct Fire Suppression & Rescue Activities:
    Responds to fire alarms, performs rescue operations, forcible entry, ventilation, and salvage tasks; provides standby support for aircraft operations.
  • Lead and Participate in Training:
    Conducts crew training, maintains certifications (EMT-B, HazMat, Technical Rescue, RTF), and ensures team proficiency in emergency response.
  • Maintain Station and Equipment Readiness:
    Oversees cleanliness and serviceability of uniforms, gear, vehicles, and facilities; ensures inventory and readiness of all tools and supplies.
  • Other Duties as Assigned:
    May include astronaut rescue, Pad Rescue support, administrative tasks, and additional responsibilities as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • Certifications in Firefighting & Emergency Response:
    Must hold DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard certifications including Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Incident Safety Officer, and Airport Firefighter.
  • Driver/Operator & HazMat Credentials:
    Required certifications include Driver/Operator for Aerial, Pumper, and ARFF apparatus, plus Hazardous Materials Technician and Operations.
  • Medical & Rescue Readiness:
    Must be a National Registry EMT or Florida EMT (within one year of hire), and trained in Technical Rescue Awareness and Rescue Task Force (RTF) operations.
  • Compliance & Security Requirements:
    Must meet physical certification standards, pass drug/alcohol testing, possess or obtain a secret security clearance, and have no felony or drug-related convictions.
  • Education & Legal Requirements:
    Must be at least 21 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, hold a valid Class E Florida driver's license, and be fluent in English (spoken and written).
