The Deputy IT Operations Supervisor will be part of a dynamic team that provides IT support, maintenance, operations, logistics, and engineering services to help ensure the secure, reliable, and uninterrupted availability of INL/A Management Information Systems. This role, in coordination with the IT Operations Supervisor, will lead IT operations to support the Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office of Aviation (INL/A) in support of their missions to sustain the national security and economic interests of our nation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine the overall IT Operations strategy, ensuring alignment with customer mission and objectives.
  • Leverage experience deploying enterprise-level solutions (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Azure, AWS, AI) to identify emerging technologies and trends, assessing their potential impact on mission success.
  • Lead the development and execution of strategic IT initiatives, drawing upon a successful track record of managing projects from inception to launch.
  • Provide leadership on IT best practices, industry standards, and regulatory compliance within the customer context.
  • Supervise and recruit teams of technical professionals, leveraging experience leading administrators, analysts, engineers, and other technical personnel.
  • Provide training and education services to staff to enhance their technical skills and knowledge, drawing on experience developing and conducting training programs for military personnel.
  • Evaluate current staff and staffing vacancies while working with recruiting to ensure the program has the resources needed to perform the Statement of Work.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day IT operations, ensuring monitoring and maintenance of all IT infrastructures, leveraging experience in sustaining and maintaining network infrastructure for critical missions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for escalated IT issues, providing guidance and direction to resolve problems quickly and effectively, drawing on experience managing network operations centers and ensuring high network availability.
  • Collaborate with IT team leads (engineering, product, operations, SRE) to ensure seamless coordination and efficient delivery of services, building on past success in leading cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with other governance and support teams (project management, change management, asset management, service desk, NOSC) to coordinate overarching initiatives within the program.
  • Monitor IT performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions, utilizing a data-driven approach honed through experience in network monitoring and reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to IT policies, procedures, standards, and Department of State regulations across the organization, drawing upon experience with COMSEC and IA processes.
  • Maintain and expand a comprehensive system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate appropriate downtime activities with the government customer for authorization and with internal and external consumers to minimize impact to mission.
  • Deliver satisfactory performance metrics of key deliverables and performance objectives by developing measurable prerequisites and internal measurements to anticipate outcomes on a weekly basis.
  • Perform all duties of the IT Operations Supervisor in their absence.
  • Travel may be required for special projects. (CONUS, OCONUS)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3+ years managing IT Operations, operations center environments, or similar operations environments.
  • 10+ years' experience in a technical/computer-related capacity.
    • ITIL/ITSM certification is preferred
    • Security+, CySA+, CND, or CCNA-Security certification is highly desired.
  • Secret Clearance required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven successful project management experience.
  • Experience with ITSM principles and methodologies.
  • Experience using ITSM and ticketing tools.
  • Experience with Windows, AWS, Azure, and other data platforms.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver performance feedback to assigned staff in a timely, consistent manner.
  • Ability to coordinate the resolution of customer-impacting events and lead root cause analysis investigations.
  • Possess excellent client service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
