You will be the Manufacturing Engineer Sr Staff for the Manufacturing Engineering team. Our team is responsible for supporting production of optics and machined components, applying expertise in chemistry, materials science, and failure analysis to drive quality, cost‑reduction, and yield improvements.

What You Will Be Doing

As the Manufacturing Engineer Sr Staff you will be responsible for guiding advanced manufacturing processes, mentoring early‑career talent, and leading continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support optics manufacturing, including thin‑film coatings and photolithography, as well as paint and plating processes that require chemistry and materials‑science expertise.

  • Translate complex engineering drawings and parts lists into clear work instructions and shop‑floor documentation.

  • Apply lean manufacturing techniques, automation, and advanced analytics to reduce cost and increase yields.

  • Lead root‑cause investigations of non‑conformances, implement corrective actions, and provide technical guidance to operators.

  • Mentor and train peers and early‑career team members, fostering growth of critical engineering skills.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or related discipline
• Effective project management skills
• Strong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal)
• Experience working with cross-functional groups
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative to solve problems and issues as they arise
• Leadership experience
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance
Desired Skills:
• Experience with data analytics
• Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action tools
• Experience with Optics Manufacturing, Thin Film Coatings and Failure Analysis Techniques
• General understanding of Mil-Spec special processes (heat treatment, chem-film, anodize, passivation, organic coatings, etc.)
• Familiarity with ISO9000 and AS9100 industry standards, and common military specifications
• SAP and Apriso experience
• Windchill PLM experience
• Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification
• Proposal development experience
• Experience writing technical work instructions
• Familiarity with equipment operation such as interferometers, spectrophometer, spectroradiometer, scatterometer, etc.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
