Electrical Systems Operator

Position is contingent upon contract award

The Electrical Systems Operator (ESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical power distribution systems supporting USG. The ESO monitors, controls, and maintains critical electrical infrastructure including high and low voltage equipment, uninterruptible power supplies, backup generators, switchgear, and power management systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Operator, monitor, and maintain electrical distribution systems, including medium and low voltage networks, UPS systems, emergency generators, switchgear, and power distribution units.
• Perform switching operations in accordance with established electrical safety procedures and lockout/tagout standards.
• Monitor building management systems and electrical power monitoring systems to identify and respond to alarms or abnormal conditions.
• Coordinate with engineering, mechanical, and control room personnel to ensure continuous power availability and system reliability.
• Conduct inspections, equipment readings, and operational tests to verify proper system performance.
• Record and maintain detailed operational logs, event reports, and shift turnovers in compliance with standard operating procedures.
• Support preventative and corrective mechanical activities; assist in outage coordination and restoration.
• Respond to emergency events such as power outages, equipment failures, and load transfers to minimize operational impact.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable NFPA, OSHA, NEC, and federal regulations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma, Vocational School or Trade School Diploma.
• Ten (10) years' experience performing work on electrical distribution systems
• Two (2) years' experience in monitoring and controlling major facilities electrical systems including UPS, Power Generation, and SCADA/EMCS.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Working knowledge of power grids, emergency generation, and critical electrical infrastructure systems to support multi-building campuses.
• Expertise in manual and virtual switching operations.
• Experience troubleshooting alarms, undesired equipment conditions, and completing corrective actions.
