This Strategic Operations Research Analyst Manager in the Huntsville Operations Analysis Group (OAG) (aka "Possum Works") will join a dynamic team environment with a unique culture supporting a myriad of Independent Research and Development (IRAD) projects and selected program tasks. The chemistry of the team is critical to our success. You will need to be highly motivated to evaluate the effectiveness of strategic deterrence, strike & missile defense problem solutions at the conceptual level.
Engaging in matters of national and international importance on broad-ranging topics such as defense policy, threats, doctrine, and operations concepts, models and simulates operations using advanced visualization tools, threat models and command and control models to perform operations analysis and mission effectiveness. Provides a quantitative, rational basis for decision making through the application of logic and scientific disciplines and techniques including mathematics, statistical methods, engineering methods, operational mathematics techniques (linear programming, game theory, probability theory, symbolic language, etc.), and other principles and laws of scientific disciplines. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions.
The Operations Analysis Group's Manager will perform the duties of Deputy of Operations Analysis Group. Assist the Senior Manager of the OAG in the administration of OA activities and personnel. Represent the OAG in the absence of the OAG Senior Manager. Leverage the OA Campaign Plan Database to manage tasks, personnel, and resources, ensuring quality OA products and alignment with LM Space priorities. Advise and assist analysts on the applications of analytic methods, tools, and processes. Facilitate open and clear communication up and down the chain. Manage OA capability set (people, skills, and tools) to be aligned with current and projected future needs. Assist in hiring new analysts when needed.
As a leader, provide superior leadership to the OA group. Promote accomplishments and seek growth opportunities for the OA team. Foster a supportive, positive work environment. Set clear expectations and support progress toward defined objectives. Perform operations analysis as either study lead or team participant in OA analysis undertakings as assigned. In doing so, apply the 8-step analysis process to obtain traceable, supportable results that answer the overarching question in each case. Serve as the Subject Area Domain Lead in an appropriate area. Be up to date on the latest developments in the subject area; take initiative to gather and disseminate information and data in the subject area.
The OAG Manager responsibilities will include:
• Serve as a lead consultant to top management in long-range planning concerning new or projected areas of technical research and advancements, providing strategic coordination and thought leadership Cross Domains, Lines of Business (LoB), LM Business Areas (BAs), and Corporate which may form the basis of newly developed concepts, theories, and products and support Business Development
• Focus coordination internally, as well as coordination at all levels, LoB/BA/Corp/External, outreach, product and process, training, evangelism
• Promote of the use of Mission Integration Directorate (MI) in all appropriate facets of the LM Space Enterprise, and the evolution of the future of MI and the Operations Analysis discipline at LMCO
• Interface weekly with MI Chief Analysts, the MI Fellows, and MI Analysis and Assessment (A&A) Director
• Active participation in OAG AGILE meetings, bi-weekly threat briefings, and required MI and OAG meetings
Limited travel to support internal and external customer engagements
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics or equivalent discipline
• Strong background in systems engineering principles, including functional analysis, and system design
• Experience as a technical lead, manager, or Product Owner of an engineering team
• Active or Current DoD Secret Security clearance required prior to start with the ability to obtain a Top Secret
Desired Skills:
• Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
• Master's degree from an accredited college in mathematics, operations research, engineering, systems engineering, physics or equivalent discipline
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on requirements development, verification, and validation, as well as integration and test
• Subject Matter Expert level of knowledge of the Missile Defense System of Systems
• In-depth missile defense threat knowledge
• Experience with medium and high-fidelity missile defense modeling and integration
• Experience with physics-based modeling of radars/sensors
• Program/project management experience in scenario development and weapon system performance assessments
• Strong leadership and technical skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of systems engineers.
• Experience updating project execution schedules
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple, complex projects, and lead/motivate multiple teams each having varying levels of experience
