Cybersecurity Engineer – Defense Systems
Location: Dahlgren, VA
Clearance Required: Top Secret (TS); SCI eligibility preferred
Position Type: Full-Time
Certification Required: IAT Level II or higher (DoD 8570.01 or successor)
🔍 Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Engineer to support mission-critical defense programs, including Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) systems and Navy afloat/tactical combat systems. This role involves developing cybersecurity requirements, conducting threat analysis, and engineering secure architectures for complex military systems.
🧠 Key Responsibilities
Develop cybersecurity requirements, policy standards, best practices, and procedural guidance for combat systems.
Conduct cybersecurity research, analysis, and coordination across multiple classification levels to support DoD cyber assurance and policy efforts.
Lead working groups to formulate cybersecurity strategies addressing emerging threats.
Analyze cybersecurity, intelligence, and IT policy gaps affecting combat systems.
Design and document cybersecurity system engineering solutions for tactical platforms.
Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation plans tailored to combat systems.
Create comprehensive documentation covering requirements, gap/threat analysis, system engineering, and risk mitigation.
Utilize or develop Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models for cybersecurity analysis.
🧰 Required Experience
SLBM Programs: Minimum 7 years of direct experience.
Other Navy Programs/Weapons Systems:
5 years of program-specific security engineering experience with Navy afloat/tactical combat systems, or
10 years of general security engineering experience.
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Cybersecurity requirements development
Cyber threat analysis
Cyber engineering
Cyber systems architecture development
Cybersecurity policy development
🎓 Certifications & Training
IAT Level II or higher certification per DoD 8570.01 (or successor).
📚 Knowledge & Skills
Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, military system specifications, and DoD Information Assurance (IA) policies for both land-based and afloat systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and policy presentations.
