Overview
i3 is seeking an experienced and proactive Windows System Administrator to join our high-performing IT team dedicated to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and secure infrastructure management. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in administering Windows Server and workstation environments, demonstrated experience with system performance optimization, and a strong understanding of security compliance frameworks such as RMF and DISA STIGs.
This role involves independently managing, monitoring, and supporting Windows-based systems, leading system maintenance and patching initiatives, supporting virtualization environments, and ensuring compliance with security and configuration standards. The Windows System Administrator will collaborate closely with other IT professionals to implement, maintain, and enhance enterprise-level solutions that support mission-critical operations.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in administering Windows Server and workstation environments, demonstrated experience with system performance optimization, and a strong understanding of security compliance frameworks such as RMF and DISA STIGs.
This role involves independently managing, monitoring, and supporting Windows-based systems, leading system maintenance and patching initiatives, supporting virtualization environments, and ensuring compliance with security and configuration standards. The Windows System Administrator will collaborate closely with other IT professionals to implement, maintain, and enhance enterprise-level solutions that support mission-critical operations.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Windows Server and workstation environments across multiple domains and organizational units.
- Manage and optimize core infrastructure services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Oversee user and group account management, permissions, and access controls in compliance with organizational security policies.
- Lead patch management and update deployment processes using enterprise tools (e.g., WSUS, PDQ, SCCM).
- Manage storage provisioning, monitoring, and performance optimization for SAN/NAS environments.
- Ensure system compliance with RMF controls and cybersecurity best practices.
- Apply, maintain, and verify compliance with DISA STIGs and security hardening procedures.
- Conduct regular vulnerability remediation activities.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, configuration baselines, and documentation for system changes.
- Provide Tier 2-3 technical support for escalated issues and collaborate with senior engineers for complex problem resolution.
- Participate in planning and execution of system upgrades, migrations, and technology integrations.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and automation efforts to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Windows system administration in an enterprise or government environment.
- Must possess or obtain within six months a Microsoft Windows computing environment training certificate in compliance with DoD 8140.
- Must have DoD 8140 IA Certification (Security+ CE).
- Current Secret clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain.
- Proficient in Windows Server and workstation management, including roles, features, and group policy configuration.
- Experience with storage management, file shares, and permissions in complex environments.
- Experience with patch management tools (e.g., WSUS, PDQ, SCCM, or similar).
- Working knowledge of RMF, NIST 800-53, and other federal cybersecurity frameworks.
- Practical experience applying DISA STIGs and performing system hardening.
- Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Experience developing PowerShell scripts for automation and administrative efficiency.
- Prior experience supporting IT systems in a DoD or other government-regulated environment.
