Salary: $137,510.00 - $180,000.00

Job Description

Metronome is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our fast-paced development team supporting mission-critical government systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration, configuration management, CI/CD, automation, AWS, Linux systems administration, and scripting in Bash and Python. A strong background in Big Data solutions is a plus.

This position is hybrid, with a rotating onsite schedule (during normal business hours) in Hanover, MD, and occasional work out of our Columbia, MD office. Flexibility is key for success in this role.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Support the development and deployment of cloud infrastructure in AWS, especially EKS.
  • Support non-cloud (edge) infrastructure for on-premise and portable systems.
  • Automate deployment processes to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Manage and maintain Kubernetes containers and cloud infrastructure on AWS.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate applications into infrastructure pipelines.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production systems, resolving complex issues as necessary.
  • Continuously improve tools, automation, and DevOps workflows to enhance efficiency.


Required Skills

Security Clearance:
  • Active Top Secret U.S. Government clearance required
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • SCI eligibility highly desired


Experience & Education:
  • 9+ years in DevOps Engineering or Software Development with a Bachelor's in a related field;
    OR 7 years with a Master's;
    OR 13 years with a High School Diploma or equivalent


Technical Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services (EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, Lambda) for deployment and infrastructure management
  • Proficient in Linux system administration and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Terraform and Ansible for configuration management and automation
  • Skilled in application, container, and OS deployment, scaling, and maintenance
  • Programming proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go
  • Familiarity with Git, Flux, and other CI/CD and deployment tools
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and standard development tool suites (JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab)
  • Must hold a DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification (e.g., Security+)
  • Ability to support a rotating onsite schedule in Hanover or Columbia, MD, with occasional remote flexibility


Desired Skills

  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Hive, Drill, Impala, Trino, or Presto
  • Hands-on experience with EKS, Diode, CI/CD, and Terraform
  • Ability to support occasional on-call operations
  • Familiarity with enterprise-scale system monitoring and DevSecOps best practices
