Job Summary
The Database Engineer supports Navy operations by designing, installing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise-level databases to ensure secure, high-performance, and highly available environments. This position assists in database administration and plays a key role in managing Oracle 19c Multitenant architectures, supporting cloud-based solutions, and performing proactive monitoring and tuning. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in Oracle database administration, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues, automate processes, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to meet mission-critical objectives.

Responsibilities
- Install, upgrade, configure, and maintain Oracle databases (19c Multitenant architecture with container and pluggable databases)
- Create, rebuild, refresh, and restore databases using RMAN, Data Pump, and related utilities
- Manage database security, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), access control, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards
- Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and efficient operation
- Monitor database health and perform proactive maintenance, including archiving/deleting unneeded data and managing logical/physical storage
- Develop and maintain SQL, PL/SQL, and Linux shell scripts for automation, reporting, and routine tasks
- Support application teams by resolving database-related issues and collaborating on new features or migrations
- Conduct capacity planning for storage, memory, and CPU resources to support database growth and mission needs
- Export, backup, and safeguard configurations, connection strings, and data models to support disaster recovery and continuity of operations
- Collaborate with Navy program stakeholders to ensure compliance with STIGs, RMF, and NIST 800-171 standards
- Provide expertise in cloud-based Oracle environments, including running on Azure VMs and hybrid architectures
- Document database configurations, processes, and architecture for lifecycle support and future replication
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical discipline
- 4+ years of experience in database administration and engineering
- Experience with Oracle 19c or similar enterprise-level databases
- Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and database scripting
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Active Secret Clearance required
- U.S. Citizenship required
- If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of database engineering or administration experience in a DoD or Navy environment
- Experience with Oracle Multitenant, RMAN, Data Pump, and TDE
- Knowledge of performance tuning, capacity planning, and database security best practices
- Familiarity with Azure cloud deployments and hybrid database architectures
- Understanding of DoD cybersecurity compliance (STIGs, RMF, NIST 800-171)
- Experience developing automation scripts in Linux/Unix environments
