Details
Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

In this position, you will:
- guide the design, development, integration, and sustainment of software systems that enable the FAA's mission.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance on FAA software development and integration projects.
- Lead or oversee the design, coding, testing, and deployment of mission-critical applications.
- Ensure compliance with FAA standards, cybersecurity requirements, and federal software development best practices.
- Serve as an advisor to FAA leadership, providing technical insight on software modernization strategies, tools, and emerging technologies.
- Conduct design reviews, code inspections, and quality assurance evaluations to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, cybersecurity experts, and program managers to align software with broader system objectives.
- Support proposal and capture activities, including technical solutioning and cost estimation.
- Mentor and coach junior and mid-level software engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Stay current with emerging technologies (AI/ML, cloud-native architectures, DevSecOps pipelines) and recommend adoption where applicable.
- Prepare and present technical briefings, reports, and recommendations for FAA leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
- Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience; or Masters degree and 6 years; or Associate's degree and 10 years' experience; or HS diploma/equivalent and 12 years experience.
- Hands-on knowledge of software engineering.
- Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python, C#).
- Proven expertise in software architecture design, testing, and lifecycle management.
- Experience with cloud platforms and cloud-native software development.
- Proficiency with version control systems (Git), automated testing frameworks, and software quality assurance tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct FAA or NAS configuration management experience.
- Familiarity with FAA systems, NextGen modernization programs, or other large-scale federal IT programs.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, trade studies, and technical evaluations to support decision-making.
- Experience preparing documentation for compliance, audits, and technical reviews.
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Expert, or CISSP.
- Experience leading software efforts for FAA, DOT, DHS, DoD, or other large-scale federal programs.
- Familiarity with aviation systems, air traffic management software, or mission-critical operational environments.
- Published research, white papers, or conference presentations in software engineering or aviation technology domains.
- Expertise in AI/ML, advanced analytics, or next-generation automation for aviation systems.
