PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling and similar activities. The CSO engages in such exertions when, for example, they inspect office buildings or industrial facilities, large military complexes or remote sites. Performance of work may take place in attics, crawlspaces, walls, ceilings, and other limited access spaces, in rough terrain or in construction sites when planning and monitoring the installation of security systems as part of original construction. The work may regularly involve lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects of 50 pounds or less when delivering or installing security devices. The work may require some common characteristics and abilities of physical agility and dexterity to work in confined spaces and to move or lift moderately heavy objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high levels of noise in contractors' plants, high temperatures in confined spaces, or adverse weather conditions at construction sites. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

MAJOR DUTIES
  • Serves as Chief Security Officer (CSO) with full responsibility and delegated authority to implement and carry out all facets of a highly effective and competent security program.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates and controls work of the security program, and supervises all related security positions/staff.
  • Formulates, interprets, and implements security policy, procedures, systems, and programs for the office.
  • Determines security clearances for employees or other persons to have access to sensitive and classified information, resources, material or work sites.
  • Reviews designs and inspects facilities where sensitive and classified material will be located.
  • Ensures the proper classification of secure, sensitive, and classified information.
  • Prepares and presents oral and written briefings/presentations to management regarding the program.

Specialized Experience (SE)

GS-14: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Assists with the development and/or implementation of methods for identifying and protecting information property or facilities from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, espionage, sabotage, or loss.
  • Prepares and presents oral and written presentations related to security matters.
  • Acts as a team lead, mentor or supervisor to a group of employees.
  • Articulates proficiency in Personnel, Physical, Information, Industrial, and Emergency Preparedness.

Desired Skills

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
    • The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.

    • Required Leadership Training: All FBI supervisors promoted after January 2022 are required to attend and complete the Training Division's Supervisor Essentials Program within 365 days from initial assignment into a supervisory position. Supervisors will need to complete both the "Mentoring and Coaching" and "Performance Appraisals" courses as part of the Supervisor Essentials program. The Supervisor Essentials course is a pre-requisite for the new Leading People (Virtual) and face-to-face version (VLP) that will be offered beginning the 2nd Quarter of 2022.
    • If you are selected, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period. Probationary employees are precluded from being considered for all job opportunities until 12-months of their 24-month probationary period has concluded. Probationary Employees may be considered for competitive vacancies that are advertised within their respective division or field office after serving 90 days within the FBI.
