Leidos is seeking an expert systems engineer specialist to support the NASA science mission directorate. The role requires ability to apply advanced engineering concepts, processes, practices and procedures on technical assignments. Provide analysis related to the design, integration, and operation of hardware, software, and man-machine interfaces and all system level requirements to provide an integrated IT solution. This role develops integrated system test requirements, strategies, devices and systems and directs overall system level testing. The systems supported are listed in this database, and include but are not limited to desktops, laptops, servers, subscribed UNIX, LINUX, Macs, PCs, virtual machines, printers, computer clusters, various appliances, and lab systems. This position requires the ability to work independently with direction and as a team member under the direction of the lead task manager. Join us at AEGIS where the sky is NOT the limit!

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform routine, “white glove” technical support for access management, file system management, system performance monitoring, performance tuning, and network connectivity.
  • Ensure supported systems are available to end users with a high percentage of uptime.
  • Recommend and design solutions for end users’ supported systems.
  • Coach and train team members in emerging technologies and operational changes.
  • Build new computer systems and support installation of software and peripherals.
  • Restore hardware and/or software failures against supported systems.
  • Coordinate or facilitate hardware or software maintenance (upgrades and patches).
  • Coordinate network installations, adds, moves and changes (IMACS) by helping end users through ticketing process.
  • Install, upgrade, and troubleshoot application software on supported systems.
  • Perform OS installations, upgrades, patches, and ensure security compliance.
  • Ensure supported systems and data are backed up and restoration is maintained for Continuity of Operations in case of disaster.
  • Assist end users with their preferred system and data backup methods.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled meetings with clients.
  • Support new IT hardware acquisition in accordance with agency guidance.
  • Support end users in long and short-term planning for network, compute, and coordination of all aspects of supported IT systems to assist the decision-making process for purchases, upgrades, or repairs to end user and lab systems.
  • Conduct long- and short-term planning for network, compute, and coordination of all aspects of supported IT systems including coordination with local area network (LAN), wireless and firewall support teams.
  • Maintain Agency IT End-of-Life (EOL) compliance with supported systems.
  • Develop automation tools to test, find, and implement safe ways to optimize operations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on system configurations, control implementations, administration processes, and maintain network connection inventory.
  • Provide system security support.
  • Understand agency security policies
  • Conduct domain authentication.
  • Install and enable authentication for smart card readers.
  • Review accounts for compliance with account access management requirements.
  • Support annual security plan testing and auditing in collaboration with the Information System Security Officer.
  • Communicate with and provide requested information to SOC when required.
  • Support incident response against supported systems and recommend protective measures.
  • Coordinate and conduct vulnerability management of supported systems with security stakeholders
  • Provide configuration and implementation control data to security stakeholders in support of POA&Ms, RBDs, and annual security plan audits.
  • Maintain production-level logging server.
  • Provide limited support for client identified systems, such as installing and configuring applications.
  • Provide conference room, “Hyperwall”, video conference rooms, and auditorium technical support.


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field with 16+ years of experience working in computer hardware and software support
  • Ability to obtain a NASA Public Trust clearance
  • Creativity to imagine innovative, effective new solutions and designs.
  • Apply sound logic and reasoning against troubleshooting difficult issues.
  • Must be able to develop solutions to problems, as well as manage multiple issues at the same time.
  • Understanding and appropriately responding to feedback is an important aspect of this position.
  • Both oral and written communication skills are vital to relaying important information, training new staff members, and communicating about solutions to complex problems.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced understanding of ITSM processes and experience with agile methodologies like Scrum, Kanban, SAFe using technologies like Jira or ServiceNow
  • Experience with automation technologies (Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Experience with cloud technologies in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

  • Jamf Certified Tech – Jamf Pro (Jamf 200)

Pay Range: Pay Range $112,450.00 - $203,275.00
