Sentar is seeking a remote Cybersecurity Policy Engineer!

Role Description:

This position provides cybersecurity engineering and policy support to the Program Executive Office, Medical Systems / Chief Information Officer (PEO MS/CIO), J-6. The Cybersecurity Engineer II ensures compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and Defense Health Agency (DHA) cybersecurity governance, Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements, and Assessment & Authorization (A&A) standards. The role includes development, review, and coordination of cybersecurity policies, technical guidance documents, and enterprise governance artifacts to support secure system operations and cybersecurity decision-making.
  • Review and process PEO MS/CIO (J-6) cybersecurity taskers and documentation, ensuring correct routing, tracking, and compliance with governance standards.
  • Develop, review, and update cybersecurity policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Procedures Instructions (PIs), and Directives-Type Memorandums (DTMs) in alignment with DoD, DHA, and NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5 security control requirements.
  • Monitor and assess changes in federal law, DoD directives, and cybersecurity publications for applicability to DHA systems and policy structures.
  • Support RMF and A&A processes by drafting and maintaining documentation, including system security categorizations, cybersecurity impact analyses, and A&A weekly reports.
  • Assist with identification, documentation, and monitoring of security controls and compliance gaps in coordination with Information Systems Security Managers (ISSMs) and system owners.
  • Conduct policy and governance reviews of enterprise cybersecurity processes to ensure alignment with DoD Instruction 8510.01 (RMF for DoD IT) and DHA guidance.
  • Create and update cybersecurity-related Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), Ask-An-Expert (AAE) knowledge base entries, and technical user guidance.
  • Prepare and deliver technical briefings, meeting minutes, risk summaries, and policy status updates to government stakeholders.
  • Assist with Enterprise Task Management System (ETIMS) taskings related to DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) initiatives, artificial intelligence governance, and software policy modernization.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity engineers, ISSMs, and policy leads to ensure correct application of security controls and governance processes across systems and policy documents.

Qualifications:

Clearance Level: Secret

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics with a computer science concentration, or related discipline.

Certification: IAT II or higher

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of experience in policy analysis, cybersecurity governance, RMF, or DoD/DHA policy support and min 6 total years of experience

Technical Knowledge:
  • Understanding of RMF lifecycle, A&A documentation, and NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5 controls.
  • Familiarity with security documentation systems such as Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS), ETIMS, or similar tracking tools.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity policy development, governance processes, and compliance validation.

Skills:
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills for cybersecurity policy and system governance artifacts.
  • Ability to analyze policy impact on systems, programs, and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Experience coordinating with stakeholders to implement cybersecurity process improvements.
