The Senior Software/Systems Architect - Configuration Management serves as a subject matter expert in designing, implementing, and maintaining system- and product-level configuration management (CM) frameworks. This position supports large, complex environments and multiple concurrent development efforts by integrating CM throughout the system lifecycle. The Architect ensures all CM activities align with stakeholder requirements and standards such as SAFe, IEEE 828, ITIL, NIST SP 800-53, and NIST SP 800-128. This senior technical leader develops policies, plans, and processes that advance automation, traceability, and compliance while reducing overhead and improving quality across enterprise programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Establish and maintain Configuration Management System (CMS) toolsets to track configuration items (CIs), changes, and dependencies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain CM policies, plans, and processes aligned with SAFe, IEEE 828, ITIL, NIST SP 800-53, and NIST SP 800-128 standards.
• Support CM for large, complex systems and products, including multiple concurrent and parallel development efforts.
• Manage source code and documentation, versioning, branching/merging, builds, baselines, and traceability.
• Perform full lifecycle CM support from CI inception through end-of-life, including change management, auditing, and traceability.
• Integrate CM within software development, automation, and CI/CD processes.
• Conduct systems analysis, documentation, and diagramming to develop and present detailed technical and business information.
• Develop materials, training, and documentation to support CM and related technical work.
• Provide program support, mentoring, and ad-hoc CM assistance to technical and business customers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve integration and technical issues.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Minimum of 7 years of experience supporting VA OIT or similar federal IT contracts involving Configuration Management.
• Expertise in developing and maintaining CM policies, plans, and processes that align with SAFe, IEEE 828, ITIL, and NIST SP 800-53/128 standards.
• Proven experience implementing CM for large and complex systems and products.
• Deep understanding of source control, versioning, baselines, builds, traceability, and repository management.
• Proficiency in CI/CD frameworks, automation testing, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, Git/GitHub, Jenkins, Selenium, ServiceNow, and related open-source CI/CD tools.
• Ability to perform detailed systems analysis, documentation, and architecture diagramming.
• Strong communication and presentation skills for documentation, training, and mentoring.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
• Experience using Power BI to automate CM activities and develop dashboards and reports.
• Familiarity with Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) and MUMPS environments.
• Knowledge of automation, cloud services, and data aggregation techniques.
• Capability to develop implementation strategies, perform estimation, and provide alternatives for large systems programs.
• Demonstrated ability to create both high-level frameworks and detailed analyses to support enterprise CM efforts.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
CLEARANCE:
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
