Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Hardware Test Engineering - Manager Level 1 to join our team in Dulles, VA to support our Vehicle and Mechanical Engineering team.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

In this role, you will oversee the Test Engineering organization at the Dulles, VA facility. You will apply your electrical test, troubleshooting, and leadership skills in a dynamic environment. You will collaborate with various disciplines, such as Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), Design Engineering and Manufacturing, and all levels of personnel throughout all phases of Avionics Testing (i.e., Test Planning, Test Documentation Preparation, Test Execution, Data Review and Test Report Preparation and Presentation).

To be successful, you must be a motivated, driven individual with excellent communication skills and possess the ability to lead, mentor, and motivate the Dulles team of Test Engineers. You will need strong analytical and diagnostic skills.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Work closely with the Design Engineer to ensure that performance requirements are well defined and understood to ensure successful EGSE development
  • Generate Test Plans and Test Procedures in the support of the EGSE design team in the HW and SW development to ensure Component Compliance to the test specifications
  • Help define EGSE Requirements and Implementation
  • Provide guidance and oversight, if not actually performing the test and debug of flight and non-flight Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) and/or Box under test which requires experience in defining test parameters, interpreting test results, and analyzing test trends and provides leadership in the area of testing
  • Provide Problem Solving Expertise and capability to mentor the team in problem solving skill
  • Participate in Avionic MRR, PDR, CDR, TRR reviews as required
  • Support Failure Review Board (FRB)s, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, deep dives, and pre-milestone reviews
  • Supporting Functional initiatives and projects, which includes but is not limited to process improvements, corrective and preventive action implementation, and safety initiatives
  • Support Cross Functional, Cross Division, and Community of Practice collaborative efforts
  • Develop/Support business proposal efforts and cost estimates for the department

Additionally, you will:
  • Report directly to the Electrical Vehicle Design Manager
  • Manage day-to-day Avionics test and troubleshooting activities for the Dulles facility
    • Help set Testing / Troubleshooting priorities as required
    • Facilitate daily Cross Program Coordination Meetings
    • Provide daily status, escalations & awareness to upper management
    • Reviewing Avionic card and/or Box performance during test and driving for continuous improvement
  • Participate in design reviews of CTE/ATE, with the emphasis of testability
  • Coordinate support plans for test activities
  • Provide inputs for Mid-Term and Year-End Performance Appraisals
  • Review and approve timesheets

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 6+ years of professional experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret security clearance
  • Experience in Hardware Design, Test/Troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and understand schematics for electronic equipment and electrical circuitry
  • Leadership or Management experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in leading a small team
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
  • Self-motivated and able to effectively work in small teams
  • Interface with CTE/ATE using LabVIEW, Test Stand and scripting software
  • Familiar with high speed serial interface protocol (TCPIP, SPACEWIRE, LVDS, RS422/485, 1553)
  • Grounding and signal preservation techniques
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office tools, Excel, and Power Point
  • Continuous improvement in areas of test fidelity and test yield
  • Able to execute non-standard scenarios within Automated Test Software and test applications

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards

Primary Level Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
