Adabase Developer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an ADABAS/DB2 Database Specialist to support a federal program on a fully remote schedule. In this role, you will provide expert-level technical support for the planning, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of Software AG's (SAG) ADABAS product suite within an enterprise z/OS mainframe environment.

Responsibilities of the ADABAS/DB2 Database Specialist:

• Plan, install, configure, customize, and implement SAG ADABAS software products, including Cluster Services, Online Services (AOS), SAF security, and associated tools.
• Configure and implement ADABAS support for structured/unstructured data, SQL, Natural, and integrated security features.
• Develop and execute disaster recovery strategies for ADABAS and related components, including offsite restoration procedures.
• Manage and optimize database structures, including creating table spaces, assisting DBAs with parameter settings, and improving efficiency.
• Configure and fine-tune ADABAS Cluster Services, add-on tools, and 64-bit Nucleus processing support.
• Implement buffering strategies for data and indexes in main memory to reduce CPU usage and enhance performance.
• Monitor, analyze, and tune database performance using SMF reporting and other resource consumption tools.
• Ensure compliance with audit requirements, regulatory standards, and OPM change control processes.
• Provide technical guidance to PMO DBMS programming and systems design teams.
• Troubleshoot and perform dump analysis of Natural programs; resolve database performance issues.
• Plan and execute migrations or conversions of SAG software to other platforms such as DB2 or Oracle.
• Support z/OS operating system parameters and optimize IBM CICS Transaction Server for ADABAS and Natural performance in CICSPlex environments.
• Automate ADABAS startup/shutdown using Tivoli System Automation for z/OS or equivalent tools.
• Apply SAG software fixes and updates to maintain operational continuity

Qualifications of the ADABAS/DB2 Database Specialist:

• Recent hands-on experience with ADABAS Cluster Services in IBM z/OS Parallel Sysplex environments.
• Expertise in ADABAS Suspend/Resume for Point-in-Time copy operations.
• Proficiency with Software AG (SAG) products, including PREDICT, REVIEW DB, REVIEW Natural Monitor, Natural Security, Natural Optimizer Compiler, Natural Construct, ADABAS Native SQL, and AOS.
• Proven experience developing and implementing disaster recovery procedures for ADABAS environments.
• Strong ability to monitor and tune ADABAS databases, optimize CPU utilization, and maintain high availability.
• Experience supporting CICS Natural applications in CICSPlex configurations.
• Solid background in maintaining z/OS operating systems and tuning IBM CICS parameters for optimal ADABAS performance.
• Hands-on experience with SAG software migrations and applying released fixes.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide technical consultation and training.
• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Compensation for the ADABAS/DB2 Database Specialist:

• Salary Range: $105,000 -120,000 *flexible based on experience*
