ALEX - Alternative Experts is seeking an experienced Senior Paralegal to support the U.S. Attorney's Office in Memphis, TN. The successful candidate will provide direct paralegal services to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), supporting complex civil litigation and investigations, including financial fraud and healthcare matters.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct legal research and summarize case files, transcripts, and documents.
- Draft legal memoranda, court filings, and correspondence for attorney review.
- Prepare case-summary binders and discovery demands.
- Organize and manage large volumes of electronically stored evidence and discovery materials.
- Perform financial analyses and investigations to assess judgment or settlement viability.
- Prepare subpoenas and review, organize, and summarize responses.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, depositions, and courtroom presentations.
- Analyze healthcare billing and treatment records.
- Provide automated litigation support using software and graphics tools.
- Utilize eDiscovery platforms and tools for document review.
- Create and manipulate Excel spreadsheets and other data tools.
- Travel occasionally for casework, special projects, or training.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of federal and state court systems, civil litigation, discovery procedures, and financial fraud investigations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, and legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER).
- Familiarity with law enforcement databases (CLEAR, Accurint).
- Experience with document management systems and eDiscovery tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable with physical office tasks (walking, sitting, standing, bending, carrying small items).
- Trial experience.
- Prior experience in a legal office setting.
- Experience with data entry, calendar management, and docketing.
- Paralegal certificate, JD, or enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school (minimum one year completed).
- Or equivalent legal training/experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in litigation support or legal studies.
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
