Description

ALEX - Alternative Experts is seeking an experienced Senior Paralegal to support the U.S. Attorney's Office in Nashville, TN. The successful candidate will provide direct paralegal services to Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) and assist in civil litigation, discovery, and trial preparation. This role requires strong legal research skills, document management expertise, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced legal environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide direct paralegal support to AUSAs in civil litigation and investigations.
  • Seek and gather factual information from law enforcement, government agencies, witnesses, and counsel.
  • Review, annotate, and summarize transcripts, files, and case materials.
  • Prepare case-summary binders and draft court filings and memoranda.
  • Obtain financial, statistical, agency, court, and public records.
  • Organize and manage large volumes of electronically stored evidence and discovery materials.
  • Conduct financial analyses and investigations to assess judgment or settlement capabilities.
  • Prepare subpoenas and summarize large document productions.
  • Review documents using various platforms, including e-discovery tools.
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation and depositions.
  • Analyze and summarize health care billing and treatment records.
  • Prepare discovery demands and analyze responses.
  • Draft legal memoranda, documents, and correspondence for AUSA review.
  • Provide automated litigation support and technical assistance for trial presentations.
  • Prepare visual materials (charts, documents, exhibits) for courtroom use.
  • Occasional travel may be required for cases, special projects, or training.

Requirements

  • Hands-on familiarity with Windows operating systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience with government network environments, internet, and server-based databases.
  • Proficiency in document review and file management systems.
  • Familiarity with imaging and hardware systems (e.g., scanners, plotters).
  • Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER) and law enforcement databases (e.g., CLEAR, Accurint).
  • Ability to create and manipulate Excel spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with federal and state court systems, civil litigation, civil discovery, and financial fraud investigations.
  • Comfortable working in an office setting with physical activity (walking, sitting, standing, bending, carrying small items).
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Trial experience.
  • Prior experience in a legal office setting.
  • Experience with data entry, calendar management, and docketing.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
Education and Experience
  • Paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school (minimum one year completed), or equivalent legal training/experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in litigation support or legal studies.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
