Network Technician
Location: Springfield, VA and 50% Travel
The Network Technician will support the Army Global Unified Network (AGUN) initiative—an enterprise modernization effort designed to enhance the US Army's network performance, resiliency, and cybersecurity. This position focuses on physical survey, installation and documentation — includes supporting network buildouts, cabling, grounding, labeling, and validation testing — across Army installations in both CONUS and OCONUS environments.
This role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented individual capable of executing network installation plans, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and collaborating with engineers, site leads, and other entities for system validation and acceptance.
Required:
· Active DoD Secret (minimum) clearance
· CompTIA Security+ CE (IAT Level II compliant)
· 2+ years of hands-on experience supporting DoD or enterprise network environments
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Visio for network and rack documentation
· Basic knowledge of network equipment types (switches, servers, PDUs, UPS, etc.
· Strong understanding of rack/stack procedures, cable management, and labeling best practices
· Ability to lift and install data center equipment (up to 50 lbs.) safely
· Willingness to travel to Army sites both CONUS and OCONUS for extended periods of time up to, and exceeding 30 days
· Clear communication skills for documenting and reporting installation progress.
Responsibilities:
· Assist with the installation, build-out, and validation of AGUN equipment racks, enclosures, and power systems.
· Support the creation and maintenance of Visio or Draw.io engineering diagrams, including rack elevations, floor plans, physical connectivity, and inside-plant (ISP) cable paths.
· Mount and install network switches, servers, PDUs, patch panels, and related components per design documentation.
· Perform cabling and physical connectivity tasks including fiber (MTP/MPO, LC/SC/ST) and copper (CAT6) cable routing, dressing, labeling, and termination.
· Support grounding and bonding of racks, chassis, and cabinets in accordance with Army and DoD standards.
· Assist engineers with physical connectivity validation, visual inspections, system acceptance testing, and pre/post-installation photos.
· Participate in site surveys and document existing infrastructure conditions.
· Work with site leads and engineers to resolve discrepancies between design and as-built conditions.
