Tell me about this job. Our experts are responsible for integrated weapon system management, from inception to retirement. Nuclear hardness is defined as the ability of a system or any of its elements to withstand exposure to one or more effects of a hostile nuclear environment. As a Senior Nuclear Hardness Electrical Engineer, you will work on a high-performing team to provide engineering, technical, and administrative expertise to the government in the areas of nuclear hardness, nuclear survivability, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) in accordance with requirements detailed in Department of Defense, United States Strategic Command, and Air Force directives, manuals and instructions, ensuring the Minuteman III (MM III) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system weapon system remains a reliable and effective nuclear deterrent. This is an exciting job opportunity where you'll not only work on an important project, but also to help advance the United States military's global deterrent system.

A Senior Nuclear Hardness Electrical Engineer is expected to:
  • Perform professional electrical engineering analysis and evaluation which requires in-depth knowledge and diversified application of nuclear hardness engineering and electromagnetic compatibility principles, theories, concepts, practices, and techniques in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Devise new techniques and approaches and provide solutions to a wide range of technical problems by drawing on their own areas of technical specialty and consulting with other engineering specialists for technologies where they do not have in-depth expertise.
  • Review and coordinate work with other team members to ensure progress is maintained to achieve specified aims; prepare data for reports on technical findings, recommendations, accomplishments and progress measured against specific plans; perform assignments as required by contractual agreements.
  • Monitor for NH&S compliance with applicable Department of Defense, United States Strategic Command, and Air Force directives, manuals, and instructions.
  • Attend conferences and meetings to represent assigned activity. Develop working group meeting agendas, prepare and consolidate briefing materials, provide meeting minutes, and draft answers to action items assigned by other agencies or organizations.
  • Review and provide assessment and assistance to programs on Nuclear Hardness, Electromagnetic Interference / Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC), shielding applications, Technical Order changes, and Engineering Technical Analysis Requests.
  • Author and publish white papers, formal analyses, and briefing materials to document engineering-based rationales to inform decision-makers in support of recommendations to our customer.
  • Evaluate plans, reports, requirements, and criteria from a technical perspective for a variety of technical activities and recommend alternatives as required.
  • Learn the fundamentals of the fielded weapon system and nuclear hardness requirements. Continuously improve that knowledge to apply it to technical analyses and design reviews.
  • Update NH&S engineering documents known as Hardness Data Manuals (HDMs) and Design Analysis Reports (DARs) to capture impacts resulting from years of Civil Engineering additions and system modifications to MM III operational sites and accurately reflect the current state of the overall NH&S of the weapon system
  • Reconcile HDM and DAR requirements, incorporating into the HDMs and DARs the updates already reflected in the technical baseline defined by engineering drawings, Engineering Orders (EOs), or other technical data.
  • Research test and inspection requirements missing from drawings associated with HDM and DAR updates, provide the required revision(s), and prepare EOs to implement the changes as needed to complete the revisions.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the NH&S Team Lead.
