Description

Vistra is hiring a Legislative Affairs Specialist to track and analyze legislation and impacts, provide subject matter expertise to project and develop weekly briefings and policy guidance.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Monitor the status of defense legislation, pertinent hearings, markups, and floor actions.
  • Prepare client staff for congressional hearings.
  • Draft responses to congressional and other stakeholder inquiries.
  • Create messaging products to communicate office priorities and accomplishments to stakeholders.
  • Develop or contribute solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Work independently with some guidance.
  • Other tasks as assigned


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, or related field and 3+ years directly related experience
  • 3+ years of experience with legislative affairs
  • Experience synthesizing inputs to develop cohesive, comprehensive information papers and responses to requests for information, questions for the record, etc.
  • Experience developing and managing digital tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) to to track compliance and analyze legislation impact
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and detailed interpretation to examine complex legislative issues and identify gaps and possible solutions/improvements
  • Ability to provide clear verbal and written communications to a variety of stakeholders in alignment with DoD style expectations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to expertly advise leaders on legislative processes
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience drafting, analyzing, revising, or coordinating federal/state legislation
  • Experience working in a military environment or with military personnel
  • Experience using the DoD Correspondence and Task Management System (CATMS)
  • Experience creating verbal and written communication products for clients, including presentations, briefings, and information papers
  • Knowledge of the DoD and the Federal Government's (e.g., Washington Headquarters Services) policy development process
