RESPEC is looking for an experienced Database Administrator to help support our client by ensuring the performance, security, integrity, and availability of mission-critical databases and the UNIX/AIX infrastructure that powers EHR systems. You will collaborate closely with federal stakeholders, clinical users, and cross-functional engineering teams, operating with a security-first mindset and strong ownership.
What You’ll Do
Provide Tier II/III database administration support and mentor junior staff.
Install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain UNIX/AIX infrastructure for EHR and related systems.
Run day-to-day database operations: backups/recovery, patching, performance tuning, configuration, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
Uphold security and compliance (HIPAA, FISMA, NIST 800-53), safeguarding confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applications and data.
Design relational databases to third normal form (3NF) and support schema optimization.
Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Produce clear technical documentation, project artifacts, runbooks, and operational reports.
Support the design, development, testing, and deployment of new/enhanced EHR applications.
Partner with client stakeholders, clinical users, and RESPEC engineers to maintain secure, efficient operations.
Qualifications
Required:
Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
8+ years of overall IT experience.
4+ years of hands-on relational database administration (performance, recovery, security).
3+ years of customer-facing technical support of database platforms at data center scale.
Experience in federal government or healthcare IT, preferably with EHR systems.
Eligibility for federal suitability clearance.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
Experience with federal EHR platforms (e.g., VA VistA, DoD CHCS).
Relevant certifications in database administration and/or security.
Key Skills
Database administration: backup/recovery, patching, performance tuning, capacity/resource planning.
Data modeling and normalization (3NF).
UNIX/AIX administration for database-backed applications.
Security and compliance: HIPAA, FISMA, NIST 800-53.
Disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
Documentation: SOPs, runbooks, technical guides, and reporting.
Strong collaboration and communication with clinical and federal stakeholders.
Work Environment
Remote-first; occasional travel may be required by the client.
Operate within a highly regulated environment with strict security standards.
