Systems Engineer III
Location: Langley AFB, Virginia
Salary: $110,000–$140,000

A Day in the Life – What You’ll Do
Caribou Thunder is seeking a Systems Engineer III to support the Combat Air Force (CAF) Distributed Training Center (DTC) at Langley Air Force Base, working in collaboration with the Distributed Mission Operations Network (DMON) Team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in systems interoperability, security compliance, and network troubleshooting within a classified computing environment.
You will:
Operate and troubleshoot developed systems
Document new and existing processes
Monitor, control, and isolate problems in a data communications network
Provide first and/or second-level problem determination and responsive customer support
Collaborate with the DTC System Admin and Information Assurance staff
Support daily operations and DMON test/training events with schedule flexibility
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5+ years of technical experience, OR Master’s degree with 3+ years, OR PhD
Active Interim Secret security clearance (DoD Secret eligible for Tier 1 access)
DoD 8570 IAT II compliant (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE)
Familiarity with Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and network security devices
Understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF)
Solid grasp of networking protocols and troubleshooting practices
Familiarity with simulation protocols: DIS, HLA, or TENA
Ability to work independently and in teams
Willingness to travel up to 10% (domestic/international)
Full-time on-site at Langley AFB
Preferred Qualifications
Active DoD Top Secret security clearance
Experience with Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) events
Background in military aviation or operations
Experience with virtualized environments (VMware, ESXi, thin clients, VMs)
Network+ or CCNA certification
Experience with packet capture and network traffic analysis
Familiarity with firewalls, security architectures, and network controls
Experience with SysML, CAMEO, DOORS, and modeling environments
Background in modeling and simulation and CGF applications
Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop OS setup and security
Software development experience
