The Role
The candidate will lead a multi-discipline group of experienced electrical engineers, electromechanical engineers, and software engineers, focused on obsolescence management, material availability and reliability improvement efforts for existing electromechanical valve actuators (with built-in fiber-optic controllers) and development of the next generation of electromechanical valve actuators.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have
- Electromechanical design as well as valve design experience
- Leadership experience
- Experience in the developmental process for new equipment
- Qualification testing knowledge on shock, vibration, and electro-magnetic interference (EMI) is desirable
- Familiarity with software development management in accordance with SS-473 is desirable
- Familiarity with the CVN 78 Class design, ship construction, and fleet support is ideal
- The ideal candidate will also have significant project management experience, as well as experience interfacing directly with NAVSEA, NAVSUP, Navy personnel, and suppliers
- Knowledge of labor resource planning, budgeting, and EVMS is desirable
