Job Description
We have an opening for a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Analyst. This individual will contribute across a broad spectrum of site operations at the Laboratory. You will develop and integrate GIS and data analysis tools, addressing operational system applications, while working with members of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of planners, engineers, and Information Technology (IT) staff. This position is in the Enterprise Application Services Division within the Computing Directorate, in support of the LivIT Program.
This position will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

In this role you will
- Facilitate information sharing, analysis, and decision making through a geospatial information system (GIS).
- Contributes to the crucial infrastructure datasets and identify methods to streamline future maintenance to ensure data reliability.
- Perform infrastructure analysis to support programs in developing facility project proposals.
- Create comprehensive critical infrastructure maps of areas of interest.
- Integrate GIS with disparate business systems to provide a unified view of data.
- May represent the Laboratory by providing input on technical issues for specific projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.3 level
- Collaborate in the development of complex desktop GIS analysis to solve abstract problems including custom toolsets.
- Provide solutions to business needs from stakeholders to support the development of GIS-based decision-making tools.
- Ability to design and implement automated processes to extract, transform, and load data from disparate sources to the GIS data repository.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Land/Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Ability to perform job duties outside of a traditional office setting, occasionally in outdoor or remote locations.
- Broad experience with Esri ArcGIS software suite, Autodesk AutoCAD and field GPS equipment.
- Proficient with working independently under limited direction and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, prepare and present proposals and explain and advise management with recommendations for appropriate targeted application areas.
- Comprehensive knowledge of basic principles of cartography and graphic design, with demonstrated skills in digital cartography and geographic visualization.
Additional qualifications, at the SES.3 level
- Advanced experience with desktop GIS analysis exercises including GIS principles, best practices and a thorough knowledge of Esri's desktop software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcCatalog).
- Advanced enterprise GIS experience implementing Esri-based web/mobile apps (e.g. ArcGIS Portal, Web App Developer, Field Maps, Survey123).
- Experience developing Advanced application and development in automated ETL routines using industry-standard software (e.g., Safe Software FME Desktop/Server, ArcPy, ArcSDE-based spatial views).
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with programming and scripting languages specific to GIS development, web development, and data integration via web services (e.g., Python, XML, JSON, GeoJSON, JavaScript Atlassian JIRA, Confluence, & Bitbucket).
- Experience with EOS Arrow GPS sensor hardware/software.
- Knowledge of GIS sensor data processing and developing derivative datasets from LiDAR or GPS surveys.
